Oh, look, another one of these things! The Game Devs of Color Expo 🙄 is back for its tenth year of… well, existing. Yes, folks, brace yourselves for the 2025 edition of this extravaganza, where you can witness the sheer spectacle of “inclusion” and “representation” in gaming. And, hold on to your hats, because it’s BOTH online AND in-person! 🤯 Prepare for ticketed watch parties – because nothing screams community like paying to watch other people have fun.
So, the Game Devs of Color Expo is gracing us with its presence yet again. A whole decade of panels and interviews, huh? One can only imagine the riveting discussions that will unfold. This year promises over 30 new game announcements. I’m sure they’ll be groundbreaking. Organizers have released every single detail that anyone could ever feign interest in, including the Expo’s runtime, guests, and, of course, where you can bear witness to it all. 🥳
The glorious event kicks off on September 16 at 4:00 p.m. EST, exclusively on the Game Devs of Color Expo YouTube channel. Yes, YouTube! Where all the cool, edgy game announcements happen. Expect more than 30 games, each one more diverse and inclusive than the last. 🌈 The kickoff includes a Game Devs of Color Expo 2025 Steam Sale. Get ready to snatch up those titles you’ll probably never play.
And because watching online isn’t “inclusive” enough, they’re having in-person watch parties in New York City and Pittsburgh. More watch parties will be announced, so keep your eyes peeled for one near you. Nothing says “I care” like attending a party dedicated to watching other people enjoy a conference you could have watched from your couch. 🛋️
Before the dreaded pandemic, the Game Devs of Color Expo was held in the Schomburg Center in Harlem, New York. But since 2022, it’s been online, reaching thousands of… well, someone must be watching. Expect insightful talks, interviews, panels, and massive Steam savings. Most importantly, game announcements from developers worldwide. Their mission? To “amplify the creative power held by people of color in games.” Because apparently, creative power needs a megaphone. 📢
But wait, there’s more! Game Devs of Color will award grants of up to $15,000 to developers at the Expo this year, with “no strings attached.” That’s right, free money! Who needs venture capitalists when you have the GDoCExpo? Since 2019, they’ve awarded a total of $405,000. That’s almost half a million dollars of no-strings-attached funding for… well, you’ll probably never see the games they create. 🤷♀️
The Game Developers of Color Expo 2025 runs from September 16 until September 19. The entire schedule is available on the official schedule site. Be sure to mark your calendars for those “can’t-miss” panel sessions. And for the ultimate experience, watch the event from your couch on the GDoCExpo YouTube channel. If you want to brave the outside world, check the official website for in-person watch party information. 🌍
Currently, the in-person event information only includes NYC and Pittsburgh, but locations should update as the event approaches. Check back regularly or follow their social media channels for updates. Who knows, you might find a party near you! 🎉
