Oh look, another “new hope” for Star Wars! Because clearly, the franchise just needed more TV shows about bounty hunters and their space babies. How revolutionary!
If The Mandalorian and Grogu and Maul: Shadow Lord don’t have you foaming at the mouth for the future of Star Wars, all is not lost. There’s a new hope on the horizon. And by “new hope,” we mean the exact same recycled content but with slightly different packaging. Yay!
With the departure of studio chief Kathleen Kennedy and the promotion of new bosses Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan, it’s like Star Wars finally realized that maybe, just maybe, they should let the guy who made all those animated shows everyone loved actually make some decisions. Revolutionary concept, I know.
Their arrival could herald a whole lot of changes to the franchise, and the addition of movies that were previously off the table under the Kennedy regime. Because apparently, Kathleen Kennedy was personally blocking every good idea that ever existed. Who knew she had that much power?
And we have a theory that The Mandalorian and Grogu and Maul: Shadow Lord are part of the early foundation of an all-new Star Wars trilogy, maybe even Episodes X, XI, and XII. Because why would they just make standalone movies when they can promise you three more trilogies that might or might not happen in the next decade?

It will get you up to speed on all the behind-the-scenes changes at Lucasfilm, and how The Mandalorian and Grogu and the Maul TV show might foreshadow a new series of movies. Or it might not. The Mandalorian and Grogu is scheduled to debut in theaters on May 22, 2026. Mark your calendars now, or don’t, because let’s be real – they’ll probably delay it at least three times. It’s Star Wars – if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that release dates are merely suggestions.
Universally beloved TV shows aren’t always universally beloved from episode one. Except for The Mandalorian, apparently, which everyone loved immediately because it was just The Witcher but in space and with a cuter sidekick. Originality is dead, long live nostalgia!
