Oh Joy Another Alpha Test Because We Clearly Need More Beta Tests

Oh boy, another “exciting” development in the world of EVE Online, because apparently we haven’t milked this franchise enough yet. Fenris Creations has launched Operation Avalon, the first time-limited Alpha playtest for EVE Vanguard, and I’m sure it’s going to change the face of gaming forever. I mean, who doesn’t want to play as brutal Warclones, technologically immortal mercenaries who can be redeployed after death, in a game that’s connected to the wider EVE Universe? It’s not like we’ve seen this concept before in every other extraction shooting experience. Some executive somewhere got a bonus for this, I’m sure.

The “Innovative” Gameplay

EVE Vanguard is shaping up to be a title that works alongside EVE Online, not just a spin-off, because who needs a standalone game when you can have a spin-off with a fancy name? The game promises more responsive combat, expanded enemy variety, higher-pressure extraction, and escalating risks and rewards the longer the Vanguard stays on mission. Because, you know, that’s not something we’ve seen in every other game in the genre. The Alpha playtest, Operation Avalon, is available now, and fans can get behind the gun rather than the driver’s seat, because who needs to drive when you can shoot things?

The “Thrilling” Setting

The game takes place on planetary battlefields, where players can raid enemy sites, gather valuable technology and intelligence, fight rival players and hostile forces, and extract before it’s too late. Wow, what a unique concept. The new map, Lost Convoy, is a planetary combat zone built around an Upwell salvage recovery site, with wrecked ships, dig sites, and refineries creating high-value targets to raid. I’m sure it’s not just a rehashing of the same old ideas we’ve seen before. The game also promises to expand how players build strength between deployments, with features like gathering resources, earning Deathmarks, unlocking blueprints, using vendors, manufacturing equipment, and developing progression that persists beyond a single deployment. Because, you know, grinding is fun.

The “Groundbreaking” Connection to the EVE Universe

EVE Vanguard is connected to the wider EVE Universe, because who doesn’t want to play a game that’s tied to a larger franchise? In EVE Online, Capsuleers can hunt roaming convoys, secure Vanguard Tokens, and exchange them within their empire’s space to influence where Avalon ultimately takes hold. I’m sure it’s not just a way to get players to play both games and increase revenue. All for Avalon, indeed.

The “Easy” Access to the Alpha Test

To get started, all fans have to do is head to the official Steam page or the official EVE Launcher to request access to the Alpha test. Upon acceptance into the playtest, you can jump in with the Vanguard and explore Lost Convoy. Operation Avalon is available now through July 20, 2026, so if fans aren’t accepted into the playtest right away, there’s still a chance to get behind the visor of a Warclone until July 20. See you on the surface, I guess. Another day, another roadmap, another chance to get excited about a game that’s probably going to be just like all the others. Nature is healing, indeed. Shareholders rejoice, I’m sure. The PS2 memory card community is devastated, probably. Live-service enthusiasts are preparing the candles and summoning circle, no doubt. At this point, even the loading screens have lore, because why not?
