So, I was reading this article on CNN, sipping my coffee, and I just about spit it out when I saw the latest from President Trump. He’s been going on and on about communism, calling it the greatest threat to America, even bigger than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or 9/11. I mean, folks, that’s quite a statement. He mentioned “communism” or “communist” 14 times in a 30-minute speech, which is just staggering. It’s like he’s trying to bring back the Red Scare or something.
Now, I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that Trump is using this kind of rhetoric or that he thinks it’s going to work. I mean, come on, the guy is talking about communism like it’s still 1950. He’s even got his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, calling Democrats “communists” on Fox News. It’s like they’re trying to recreate the McCarthy era or something.
But here’s the thing: communism isn’t really a thing in America anymore. I mean, sure, there are some democratic socialists out there, but they’re not exactly advocating for a Soviet-style government. They’re more like, “Hey, let’s have some universal healthcare and maybe some more public housing.” It’s not exactly a radical idea, folks.
And let’s be real, the whole “communism” thing is just a scare tactic. Trump is using it to try and rally his base, to make them think that the Democrats are somehow un-American. But it’s not going to work, at least not with younger voters. I mean, a recent poll found that 38% of Americans under 30 have a favorable view of communism, which is roughly the same as the number who have a favorable view of capitalism. It’s like, what’s the big deal, right?
Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “But Big Elephant, what about the history of communism? What about all the bad things that happened in the Soviet Union and China?” And yeah, those were some terrible regimes, no question. But we’re not talking about that kind of communism here. We’re talking about a bunch of politicians who want to provide some basic services to their citizens. It’s not exactly the same thing.
So, in the end, I think Trump’s communism rhetoric is just a bunch of hot air. It’s not going to scare anyone, and it’s definitely not going to win him any new votes. In fact, it might even backfire, like it did with Barry Goldwater back in the day. Remember that “Daisy” ad? Yeah, that was a classic. Maybe Trump should take a page out of LBJ’s playbook and try something new, because this communism thing is just getting old.
In conclusion, Trump’s anti-communism crusade is a tired old tactic that’s not going to work in modern America. It’s a relic of the past, a reminder of a time when politicians thought they could scare people into voting for them. But times have changed, folks, and so have the voters. So, Trump can keep on talking about communism all he wants, but it’s not going to get him anywhere. And that’s just the way the cookie crumbles, folks. 🥐
