Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest Trump administration debacle, and I’ve got to say, it’s a doozy. A federal judge, Kathleen Williams, has given the Trump team a good scolding, saying their $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund was a result of a lawsuit that was essentially a pretext. I mean, come on, who tries to pull the wool over the courts’ eyes like that? Williams wasn’t having it, and her 56-page opinion is a brutal takedown of Trump and his DOJ’s conduct in the case.
I’m not surprised, though. It seems like every other day, there’s a new story about Trump’s team trying to bend the rules or use the courts for their own gain. And judges are starting to call them out on it. Like US District Judge William M. Ray II, who invalidated a grand jury subpoena that sought personal information about election workers in Georgia. He said the subpoena was an “arbitrary fishing expedition,” which is just a fancy way of saying it was a waste of time and resources.
And then there’s Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz, who blocked subpoenas against Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and other Democrats, saying the true motives were political. I mean, it’s not like we haven’t seen this movie before. The Trump administration is getting more and more brazen in their attempts to use the courts to further their own agenda. But judges are starting to push back, and it’s about time.
It’s not just these few instances, either. There’s a growing trend of judges suggesting that Trump’s administration is attempting to use the courts improperly. And they’re not mincing words, either. They’re saying it straight out: the Trump team is trying to manipulate the system for their own gain. I’m no lawyer, but even I know that’s not how it’s supposed to work.
I’ve got to wonder, though, what’s going on behind the scenes. Is the Trump team really this clueless, or are they just trying to see how far they can push the boundaries? Either way, it’s not a good look for them. And judges are starting to lose patience. I’m just going to sit back, sip my coffee, and watch the show. It’s getting good.
As I finish up my coffee, I’ve got to say, it’s been a wild ride reading about the Trump administration’s latest antics. But in all seriousness, it’s concerning to see the courts being used as a political tool. I just hope that the system can withstand all the pressure and come out intact on the other side. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll look back on all this and laugh. But for now, I’m just going to shake my head and say, “only in America, folks.”
