Obama Lawyer Regrets Epstein Connection Bigly

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Kathy Ruemmler, the former Obama White House counsel who’s in hot water for her ties to Jeffrey Epstein. According to CNN, Ruemmler regrets interacting with Epstein and believes it was a mistake. She said, “If I knew then what I know now about who Epstein really was, I never would have accepted an initial meeting with him.” I’m thinking, yeah, that’s probably true for a lot of people who knew Epstein. Ruemmler also stated that she didn’t know about Epstein’s shady dealings at the time and thought he was genuinely remorseful for his past mistakes.

Ruemmler was called to testify voluntarily by the Republican-led House Oversight Committee, and she’s being pretty candid about her relationship with Epstein. She said she met him in 2014 and he sought her advice from time to time, but she wasn’t his lawyer. I’m raising an eyebrow at this, because it sounds like they were pretty chummy. Ruemmler even called Epstein a “masterful liar,” which is definitely an understatement.

The Justice Department’s release of Epstein documents has provided some interesting insights into Ruemmler’s relationship with him. There are emails and messages between the two that discuss everything from Epstein’s legal battles to personal matters. Ruemmler even discussed taking a trip to Epstein’s private island, which is just…wow. I’m not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that she considered visiting the island or that she thought it was a good idea to discuss it with him.

Ruemmler has resigned from her job as chief legal officer at Goldman Sachs amid the fallout from the Epstein scandal. The Democrats are pressing Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon over his reported effort to retain Ruemmler, which is just adding to the drama. House Oversight Chair James Comer said Ruemmler was “probably more involved in working with him to rehabilitate his image,” which is a pretty serious accusation.

The top Democrat on the panel, Rep. Robert Garcia, echoed Comer’s concerns, saying that Ruemmler’s relationship with Epstein is “really significant.” I’m thinking, yeah, it’s definitely significant, but what does it all mean? Ruemmler has said she’ll answer any questions the committee has, so we’ll just have to wait and see what comes out of this.

In the end, it’s just another day in the world of politics, where everyone’s connected to everyone else and nothing’s as simple as it seems. Ruemmler’s story is a reminder that even the most powerful people can get caught up in some pretty shady dealings. As I finish my coffee, I’m left thinking, well, that was certainly an interesting read. And to Kathy Ruemmler, I’d say, maybe it’s time to rethink your friendship choices.
