Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we’ve got a real-life thriller on our hands.
The first note came from someone who claimed they have Nancy Guthrie, and that she is safe but scared. They demanded $4 million in bitcoin and threatened to kill her if the payment wasn’t made by a certain deadline. You’ve got to wonder what kind of person thinks this is a good idea. The note was addressed to NBC anchor Savannah Guthrie, which is just a nice touch. I’m sure she’s thrilled to be involved in this mess.
The note said, “We will be holding her for a maximum of 7 days,” which is just a lovely thing to say to someone. And then they threatened to kill her if the payment wasn’t made. I’m not sure what’s more disturbing, the fact that someone is demanding ransom and threatening to kill someone, or the fact that they’re trying to sound sympathetic and apologetic about it.
