A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS shows that Americans’ opposition to the war in Iran has hardened, with almost two-thirds saying the US is not winning the conflict and more saying President Donald Trump isn’t doing enough to end it. I mean, who didn’t see this coming? The poll also found that 29% of US adults approve of Trump’s handling of foreign affairs, a new low in CNN polling across both of his terms as president. Bless their hearts, it seems like the American people are finally waking up to the reality of the situation.
The poll results are quite interesting, with 70% of Americans saying the war has hurt American interests and 76% saying it has not been worth the costs. It’s also worth noting that 78% of Americans say that Trump is not doing enough to end the war, and 32% now see a long-term conflict as very likely. I guess you could say that the writing is on the wall, and it’s not looking good for the President.
The decline in approval of Trump’s handling of Iran comes among Republicans, with 73% approving of the way Trump was handling it in March, but now that figure stands at 60%. It seems like even some of Trump’s loyal supporters are starting to lose faith in his ability to handle the situation. Among Republican and Republican-leaning adults, approval of Trump’s handling of Iran dips into negative territory among those younger than 45 and those who say they are not members of the Make America Great Again movement.
The President’s war Cabinet isn’t faring much better, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 40% approval, Vice President JD Vance at 36%, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at 34%. It’s clear that the American people are not impressed with the way the administration is handling the war in Iran. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we have a poll that shows just how unpopular the war really is.
The views on other countries are also shifting, with the share who view Ukraine as an ally or friendly dipping from 76% in January to 70% now. On the other hand, more now see Cuba as friendly than did so in January. It’s interesting to see how the American people’s perceptions of different countries are changing over time. The share who consider Canada an ally has dropped from 51% in March 2025 to 38% now, and the share calling Israel an ally or friendly has dropped to 61%. You can’t make this stuff up, folks – it seems like the world is changing, and the American people are changing their views along with it.
In conclusion, the CNN poll shows that Americans are increasingly opposed to the war in Iran and are losing faith in Trump’s ability to handle the situation. With the President’s approval ratings at an all-time low, it’s clear that something needs to change. As I always say, you can’t make this stuff up – but it seems like the American people are finally waking up to the reality of the situation, and it’s not looking good for the President.
