Oh boy, are you guys ready for some thrilling news? 🤩 I can barely contain my excitement… 🙄 NAPALM DEATH is working on a new album! 🎸 I know, I know, it’s not like they’ve been doing this for decades or anything. But hey, who doesn’t love a good grindcore album to spice up their mundane lives? Anyway, bassist Shane Embury spoke to “Reckless” Rexx Ruger of Pod Scum about the progress of their seventeenth studio album, and I’m sure you’re all on the edge of your seats. 🤯
So, it seems that NAPALM DEATH is once again working with longtime producer Russ Russell at his Parlour Studios in Kettering, United Kingdom. Because, you know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? 🤷♂️ Asked if fans can expect some new music from the band in 2027, Shane said it’s probably not gonna be until the end of 2027, maybe, because of touring. Wow, I bet you’re all devastated by this news. 😱 I mean, who needs new music when you can just listen to their old albums on repeat, right? 🙄
But seriously, Shane did mention that they have the “bare bones” of the music recorded, and Danny Herrera will be familiarizing himself with the general ideas. Because, you know, being a drummer is all about following the leader, right? 🥁 And Barney (aka Mark Greenway) will start writing lyrics probably on tour, maybe, I suppose, in November. Because, you know, writing lyrics on tour is always a great idea… said no one ever. 🤦♂️
The Creative Process
Shane also talked about how he doesn’t intentionally read fans’ reactions to NAPALM DEATH’s music, but sometimes he comes across it, and it’s always a thrill-ride. 🎢 I mean, who doesn’t love reading negative comments about their work? 🤔 It’s not like it’s going to ruin your day or anything. And hey, sometimes fans even give them great ideas, like that one guy who suggested they do a 12- or 13-minute track. Because, you know, what could possibly go wrong with a 13-minute grindcore song? 🤯
But in all seriousness, Shane did mention that they might still write a few more tracks, and they’re on no timeframe with Russ, so they can just take their sweet time. Because, you know, rush jobs always produce the best results, right? 🕒 And Danny just wants to blast away, because, why not? 🤘 It’s not like they’re trying to create some nuanced, complex music or anything. 😂
Looking Back
In February 2022, NAPALM DEATH released a new mini-album, “Resentment Is Always Seismic – A Final Throw Of Throes”, via Century Media Records. Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good mini-album to hold them over until the next full-length? 🤔 It was a partner recording to “Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism”, concluding matters through vital, tumultuous grindcore and shockwave ambience. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the world needed. 🌎
And let’s not forget their sixteenth studio LP, “Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism”, which was released in September 2020 via Century Media Records. Because, you know, who’s counting? 🤔 It was recorded with longtime producer Russ Russell and featured artwork by Frode Sylthe. Because, you know, the artwork is always the most important part of an album. 🎨
Shane also released his autobiography, “Life?… And Napalm Death”, in October 2023 via Rocket 88. Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good story about a grindcore band? 📚 It’s not like it’s going to be a bestseller or anything. 📈
So, there you have it, folks. NAPALM DEATH is working on a new album, and it’s going to be… well, it’s going to be something. 🤷♂️ I’m sure you’re all on the edge of your seats, waiting with bated breath for the release date. 🎉 But hey, at least we have their old albums to listen to in the meantime. Because, you know, that’s not getting old at all. 🙄
