RICK HUNOLT Bravely Claims EXODUS Made METALLICA And SLAYER Who They Are Today

So, some dude named Rick Hunolt, formerly of some band called EXODUS (never heard of ’em 🤷‍♂️), graced the “Reckless” Rexx Ruger (who??) of the Pod Scum podcast (lol, name checks out) with his presence. Apparently, Ruger thinks Hunolt and Gary Holt are like, the guitar gods of the Bay Area, on par with METALLICA and SLAYER. Yeah, okay, buddy. Sure Jan. 🙄 Hunolt, bless his heart, actually agreed, saying they “inspired” those other guys. Inspired them to sell millions of records, maybe? 🤔 Good one, Rick. 🤣

Hunolt went on to gush about his “bromance” with Gary Holt, saying they “love each other very, very much” and will be “brothers forever.” 🤮 Get a room, guys! He also conceded that Holt is a “phenomenal riff writer.” Well, duh. That’s why he’s still relevant and you’re doing podcasts, Rick. 🤷‍♀️

When asked about the “pinnacle” of his guitar playing, Hunolt, in his infinite wisdom, chose ‘Tempo Of The Damned’. Apparently, he was a “sick human being” during that recording session, which explains a lot. 🤪 He could “feel the pain” in his soul, which he conveniently channeled into his solos. Sounds like a load of bull to me. 🐂 He did admit that ‘Fabulous Disaster’ was a commercial success because of ‘Toxic Waltz’. Okay, boomer. 👴 And ‘Bonded By Blood’ was “groundbreaking.” Sure, if you say so, Rick. 🙄

Now, Hunolt is slumming it in a band called NEFARIOUS with a bunch of other has-beens. Katon W. De Pena (HIRAX), Doug Piercy (HEATHEN, ANVIL CHORUS), Tom Gears (BLIND ILLUSION, ANCIENT MARINER), and Will Carroll (DEATH ANGEL). Sounds like a thrash metal retirement home. 👵 Their debut album, “Addicted To Power”, is coming out in 2025. Don’t hold your breath. 😴

Despite EXODUS being perpetually overlooked by the “Big Four,” Hunolt wants you to know that ‘Bonded By Blood’ was super influential. It inspired TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL, VIO-LENCE, and a bunch of other bands you’ve probably never heard of. 🤷‍♂️

Even Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH thinks EXODUS should have been in the “Big Five.” Probably because Mustaine loves drama and controversy more than he loves playing guitar. 😈 He did admit that Paul Baloff‘s voice was an “acquired taste.” Translation: it sucked. 🤢

Kirk Hammett of METALLICA chimed in, saying he tries not to think about how much METALLICA has eclipsed the other “Big Four” bands. Yeah, right, Kirk. You love it. 😂 He also said ‘Bonded By Blood’ is “just as good” as ‘Kill ‘Em All’. That’s debatable, Kirk. Very debatable. 🤔

Hunolt, the “H-Team” sidekick, left EXODUS after ‘Tempo Of The Damned’. He was replaced by some other dude. 🤷‍♂️ Apparently, Hunolt was a mess during that time. 🥴 Gary Holt, being the saint that he is, didn’t fire him. Instead, Hunolt woke up one day and wasn’t in EXODUS anymore. Oh, the tragedy! 😭

After getting the boot, Hunolt had to “reinvent” himself. He moved in with his wife’s mom and got a job at the Dollar Tree. 🤣 From rock star to retail worker. What a fall from grace! 📉 But don’t worry, he eventually met some rich dude who gave him a job on his ranch. And they lived happily ever after. The end. 🙄

Hunolt made a “guest appearance” on EXODUS‘s latest album, “Persona Non Grata”. Probably because they felt sorry for him. 🥺

The original lineup of EXODUS included Kirk Hammett before he bailed for METALLICA. Smart move, Kirk. 👍
