Oh Great Another Opportunity for Quake 4 Fans to Cry Themselves to Sleep Over What Could Have Been

Oh boy, are you guys in for a treat! 🎉 We’ve got some super exciting news about a game that’s almost as old as your grandma – Quake 4! 😂 It’s been two whole decades since its release, and we’re finally getting a sneak peek at the unreleased expansion, The Awakening. I know, I know, it’s not like you’ve been waiting for this moment your whole life or anything… 🙄

So, Quake 4 was the last mainline entry in the Quake series until Quake Champions came along twelve years later. Yeah, I know, it’s a real thrill-ride 🎠. But seriously, Quake 4 was a decent game, but it never quite reached the same level of popularity as its predecessors. I mean, who needs popularity when you can have a bunch of nerds playing your game in their mom’s basement, right? 🤣 Anyway, the developers at id Software decided to cancel their plans for DLC expansions, and we wouldn’t hear anything about them again for decades. Because, you know, nobody likes a good mystery 🧐.

But then, something amazing happened! 🌟 A YouTube account called Justin Marshall started posting “rare prototype build” footage of Quake 4: The Awakening. I mean, who doesn’t love a good prototype build, am I right? 🤷‍♂️ It’s like finding an old, dusty VHS tape in your attic and being like, “Oh, wow! This is gonna be good! 📺” The videos started out as small clips with a lot of text covering the screen, because who needs to see what’s actually happening in the game, right? 🙅‍♂️

But then, on May 2, Marshall posted a longer video titled “Quake 4(#1.0) The Awakening Gameplay (RARE Prototype Build) | Lost Expansion Footage.” Wow, what a title! 🤯 It’s like they wanted to make sure we knew it was a rare prototype build, just in case we forgot 🙄. The video shows the first ten minutes of the expansion’s campaign, and let me tell you, it’s a real edge-of-your-seat thrill ride 🎢. The gameplay looks pretty similar to the rest of Quake 4, but with some minor additions here and there. Because, you know, who needs major additions when you can just add a few new guns and call it a day? 🤪

Marshall described the video as “first [not watermarked] gameplay footage from an unreleased build of Quake 4: The Awakening, a cancelled expansion that never officially saw the light of day.” Wow, what amouthful! 🤯 I’m pretty sure I dozed off halfway through that sentence 😴. But hey, at least we get to see some “early development content, environments, and gameplay elements that were ultimately cut before release.” Because, you know, who doesn’t love a good game of “spot the differences” 🤔?

If you’re into lost games, unreleased content, or id Tech-era shooters, then this is the video for you! 🎉 I mean, who isn’t into that stuff, right? 🤷‍♂️ It’s like the holy grail of gaming or something 🏆. So, go ahead and check out Marshall’s YouTube channel for more Quake 4: The Awakening footage, because you know you have nothing better to do with your time 📺. And who knows, maybe you’ll even learn something new, like how to make a game that’s almost as old as your grandma 🙄.
