Game Devs of Color Expo 2025? More Like Game Devs of Beige, amirite? "Big" Direct Incoming (yawn)

Oh boy, another year, another Game Devs of Color Expo! 🎉 Is this thing still going? I mean, who knew celebrating diversity in the games industry would become such a *thing*? Anyway, GDoCExpo 2025, the 10th annual circle-j…err, celebration, is gracing us with its presence next week. Get ready for four whole days of… inclusivity! 🌈

Apparently, the Game Devs of Color Expo 2025 (because we *totally* needed another acronym) is kicking off with a showcase of “hidden gems” in indie development. Oh, you mean games that couldn’t get attention any other way? 🤔 They’re flaunting past successes like *Palia* (and its updates! Because who could forget?), *Delta Force* (updates included, naturally), and *Ara: History Untold* (which, BTW, premiered at Gamescom 2023 because apparently, *that’s* the marker of success). So yeah, GDoC Expo 2025 is a HUGE deal. Like, HUGE. So huge that they needed to tell us it starts next week. And yes, the schedule is out. You can find it… somewhere. Good luck with that! 🍀

Aside from being online (because who wants to leave their basement?), they’re doing in-person watch parties! 🥳 In New York City, Pittsburgh, Rochester, Poughkeepsie, Portland, and… wherever-ville! So, if you happen to live in one of those places, you can go watch people watch the internet. Groundbreaking! 🤯 Check out the official Watch Party page for details! I’m sure it’s not a virus-laden link or anything. 😉

The *oh-so-important* Game Devs of Colour Expo 2025 is back for its 10th year of… existing! From September 16 to September 19, get ready for an online conference that “celebrates” developers of colour and showcases new games. The GDoCExpo Direct showcase is on September 16 at 4 p.m. EDT. Because, of course, it is. Watch it on the GDoCExpo YouTube channel! 📺 Be sure to subscribe! (They need the views!)

Speaking of views, check out this tweet! 🐦 It has the schedule! Because apparently, they can’t just put it on their website. You know, for convenience. But hey, at least it’s on Twitter! X! Whatever Elon’s calling it these days. 🤷‍♀️

While the kickoff showcase is free (because no one would pay for it), there are “ticketed events” you can attend! 🎫 These events “highlight” devs and give “deeper insight” into game development. Oh, you mean more virtue signaling and humble bragging? Sign me up! (Actually, don’t). There’s even an AMA with No More Robots! Ask them hard-hitting questions like, “Why are your games so… niche?” 🤔

And get this: thanks to the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and No More Robots (again?!), they’re giving away THREE $7,000 grants to creators of colour! 💰 Wow! That’s… generous? I guess? To be fair, they’ve given away $405,000 since 2019. So, they’re basically swimming in money. Scrooge McDuck style! 🤑

Pat Swinney Kaufman, some bigwig from the NYC Mayor’s Office, said they’re “proud” to partner with GDoCExpo. She also mentioned “Made in NY” grants and supporting the expo’s viewing party. Because nothing says “accessible” like watching an online event with other people. 🙄 She even said GDoCExpo “uplifts and expands NYC’s digital games industry.” Sure, Jan. 🙄

Tickets for GDoCExpo 2025 are on sale now! 🎟️ But don’t worry, if you’re “under-privileged,” you can apply for a free ticket! Just fill out this form! (I’m sure it’s totally secure). The Game Devs of Color Expo 2025 kicks off with the Direct showcase on September 16 at 4 p.m. ET, featuring 30+ new game announcements from creators of colour. Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions! 😂 The event runs until September 19, so clear your schedule! (Or, you know, don’t). 😜
