In a groundbreaking interview with Ore Bihovsky from TotalRock’s riveting “Louder” radio show, SNOT guitarist and resident genius Mikey Doling graced us with his profound insights on the band’s triumphant return to the stage and their meticulously crafted plans for world domination 😈.
In a shocking revelation, Andy Knapp from the obscure band STRONGER THAN MACHINES (never heard of ’em, tbh) debuted with SNOT on January 17 at the prestigious Parish room at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California. Doling, in his infinite wisdom, declared (as transcribed by yours truly at BLABBERMOUTH.NET, because who else would bother?): “I’m, like, totally stoked, man. Having SNOT back is, like, a miracle. We found this new singer dude who’s, like, amazing (allegedly), and he made it all happen, somehow. And we sold some tickets and people actually showed up, which is, like, mind-blowing. We’re super grateful to be ripping people off doing this and totally stoked.”
When asked how it felt to have Knapp fronting SNOT, a whole three decades after they first graced the world with their presence and a whopping 27 years after the tragic demise of the legendary Lynn Strait (RIP, legend), Doling dropped this philosophical gem: “Honestly, it’s, like, totally the same, but with Andy. Andy‘s got this energy that we haven’t felt since Lynn Strait… So, yeah, Andy‘s here now, and he’s brought that energy back, man. The shows are full of energy. It’s totally wild, dude.” Sure, Mikey, sure it is 🙄.
Ore, bless his cotton socks, pointed out that this was the first time anyone had heard SNOT claim to be officially “back”. Doling, ever the wordsmith, clarified: “Well, before, when we had those other guys singing, it was just, like, ‘let’s get together and cash in on nostalgia’. We didn’t care about new music, promotion, or selling tickets. We just wanted to play and get paid. But NOW, we found the right sucker singer! It’s the right time to do this full-on. We’re hitting the studio, recording new music, booking tours. We’ve got a booking agent! And we’re going all in, dude! It’s gonna be huge… for our wallets! 🤑”
On the topic of new SNOT music, Mikey mused: “Well, some labels contacted us, but they weren’t the ones we wanted to leech off. We wanted to wait until we had some tunes before discussing that kind of thing. So, we recorded a couple new songs with Chris Collier (the producer guy). He’s done some KORN records and PRONG too. So, yeah, we’re working together. It’s going great! It’s funky, punk, and has attitude! It sounds like old SNOT. We’re trying not to change anything. We wanna keep it stuck in 1996! Wah pedal, grooves, and heavy punk influences. It’s gonna be so… derivative!” 🥱
When can we expect to hear this groundbreaking new SNOT music? Doling revealed: “Hopefully, by the end of the year or maybe 2026. We’re gonna drop a single and then another one a few months later. We wanna get two songs out next year! And then, over the next year, we’ll try to record a whole album… eventually. I’ve got seven or eight songs written. We’ve recorded two! It’s just hard to get everyone in the studio since we’re busy playing so much… or something. It’s challenging, but we’re making it happen… slowly.” 🐌
This past July, SNOT graced Dead End Studios in Palm Desert, California, with their presence, laying down tracks with Collier. A truly monumental occasion! 🙄
In May, SNOT somehow convinced former GODSMACK drummer Shannon Larkin to fill in for Jamie Miller (who was busy with BAD RELIGION) at the Welcome To Rockville festival. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel! 😂
And let’s not forget the revolving door of guitarists! In April, SNOT welcomed Doc Coyle (GOD FORBID, ex-BAD WOLVES) after their split with Sonny Mayo. The drama never ends!
Doling, in his infinite wisdom, announced Mayo‘s departure in a video message: “Sonny Mayo has quit SNOT! SNOT doesn’t fit into his life, and he wants to focus on himself. SNOT is too busy for him to handle!” Busy doing what, exactly? 🤔
“We wish Sonny Mayo the best! Thanks for everything you’ve done for SNOT. We love you, brother,” Mikey declared, probably while rolling his eyes. “Doc Coyle is filling in on guitar! We’re so excited to have him!” Excitement levels: minimal. 😒
SNOT disbanded in 1998 after Strait‘s tragic passing, leaving behind only one studio album, “Get Some”. They had been working on a second album, but after Strait‘s death, they decided to release those tracks as a tribute, with guest vocals from the who’s who of the late 90s alt-metal scene. The resulting album, “Strait Up”, was… well, it was something. 🤷
In 2014, SNOT hired Carl Bensley (VITIATE, CONSUME THE FIRE) to sing after Tommy “Vext” Cummings left. Another singer, another dollar! 🤑
According to the Los Angeles Times, Lynn died in a car accident in December 1998. His dog, Dobbs, the mascot from the “Get Some” album cover, also died in the crash. Tragic stuff, but hey, at least they got a cool album cover out of it! 🙄
Cummings fronted SNOT from 2008-2009 before he and Mayo left due to “strained relationships.” Can’t imagine why! 🤣
