RANCID Dumps a Load of ‘Sex & Death’ on Your Ears from the Forthcoming ‘Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute to Motörhead (Because We’re All Out of Original Ideas)’

Alright, buckle up buttercups, because the official lyrics for RANCID’s absolutely groundbreaking, earth-shattering, Grammy-worthy cover of MOTÖRHEAD’s “Sex & Death” are finally here! 🎉 Yeah, you heard that right. RANCID. Covering MOTÖRHEAD. It’s like a culinary masterpiece of… well, something you’d find at a gas station, but hey, who are we to judge? This sonic… experience… is ripped from the upcoming album, “Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead,” dropping on October 31 via BMG. Because what better way to celebrate Halloween than with the lukewarm corpse of punk rock trying to revive the skeleton of metal? 🎃

RANCID‘s own Lars Frederiksen (guitar/vocals – or as I like to call him, the guy who hasn’t aged since 1995) graced us with his profound thoughts on “Sex & Death”: “It’s like, totally the perfect MOTÖRHEAD song for me, dude. Like, Lemmy was, like, such a huge RAMONES fan, ya know? So it’s like, MOTÖRHEAD doing the RAMONES, but with a guitar solo that’s, like, totally RANCID-style. It’s like, a song we would write, man.” 🤔 Translation: “We tried to make it sound like us, but it still sounds like MOTÖRHEAD because, let’s face it, we’re not geniuses.”

In a separate video (because one opinion is never enough, right?), Lars waxes poetic about RANCID‘s cover, MOTÖRHEAD‘s influence on heavy music, and the age-old question of whether MOTÖRHEAD was punk or metal. Spoiler alert: it’s a debate for people with way too much time on their hands. 🙄

Heavy metal and punk rock – those two tribes of noise pollution, now practically BFFs, often merging into unholy musical abominations. But once upon a time, they were sworn enemies, separated by a chasm of bad attitudes and even worse fashion choices. Except for MOTÖRHEAD, of course. The one band everyone could agree on. The one band that was “truly ours!” 🤝 Seriously? “Ours”? Who died and made you the spokesperson for the entire musical universe?

While MOTÖRHEAD‘s impact on metal is universally recognized (mostly by metalheads), their influence on punk is often overlooked. Cause and effect, people! Simple as that! 🧠 Apparently, MOTÖRHEAD single-handedly made thousands of bands faster, dirtier, and louder. Give me a break. It’s like saying the invention of the microwave led to the discovery of gravity. Sure, there might be a connection somewhere, but it’s a stretch.

Lemmy, the god himself, once said: “The punks loved us. The only reason we weren’t in that lot was because we had long hair, so obviously we must be heavy metal. That was the thinking. But a lot of kids heard us without seeing a picture, so they thought we were a punk band.” 😂 Oh, the irony! So, basically, it all came down to a bad hair day? Is that what we’re going with?

Across the fourteen tracks of “Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead,” you’ll be “treated” to loving tributes from punk rock’s biggest and most respected bands. Luminaries like RANCID (again?), PENNYWISE (still around?), LAGWAGON (who?), GBH (huh?), THE BRONX (okay, they’re cool), and FEAR (old school!) all contribute their versions of favorite MOTÖRHEAD tracks. And, of course, we can’t forget the up-and-coming upstarts like SLAUGHTERHOUSE, because MOTÖRHEAD always loved and championed the underdogs. 🥺 Because nothing screams “underdog” like being featured on a tribute album, right?

Lemmy and MOTÖRHEAD have their own spot in the Punk Rock Museum. 🏛️ I didn’t even know that was a thing! But sure, why not? Long before covering the SEX PISTOLS“God Save The Queen” and writing “R.A.M.O.N.E.S.”, MOTÖRHEAD were sharing stages with THE DAMNED. And Lemmy even joined THE DAMNED for a hot minute! It’s only fitting that the one non-MOTÖRHEAD song on this album is when he teamed up with them again in 2002 for a blistering version of THE DAMNED‘s classic “Neat Neat Neat”. Because nothing says “tribute” like including a song that’s not even by the band you’re tributing. 🤪

“Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead” will be available on vinyl, CD, and digitally. Pre-orders are available now! 💰 Go waste your money!
