Hold onto your tiny hats, islanders—the dream just got a release date!
Nintendo just dropped the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Direct, and it was basically a full-blown island makeover show hosted by Yoshiaki Koizumi. In case you’ve been living under a literal rock in Tomodachi Town, this is the long-awaited sequel to the 2013 3DS cult classic where you play god to a bunch of weird, custom Miis. And yes, they promised to be more inclusive this time—so now you can make Miis that look like literally anyone, including your neighbor’s cat or that one weird uncle.
Here’s what went down in the Direct (because we know you didn’t watch it—you were too busy feeding your real-life Miis):
- Mii Creation 2.0: You can now craft Miis with more options than a build-your-own burrito bar. Choose “Get Help” if you want the game to guess your Mii’s face based on questions like “Are their eyes closer to ‘cute anime’ or ‘seen too much’?” Or go “From Scratch” if you’re a control freak who wants to pick every eyebrow hair. You can even make your Mii a teddy bear or an alien. Why not both?
- Social Engineering 101: Drop two Miis near each other and watch the chaos unfold. Will they bond over a shared love of abstract art? Will they fight over the last slice of pizza? Will they fall in love and get married in a ceremony you officiated while eating chips? The power is yours, tiny god.
- Roommates & Drama: Up to eight Miis can live together, and trust us, it’s a recipe for sitcom-level shenanigans. Imagine four Miis sharing a bathroom and one of them is a sloth. Comedy gold.
- Retail Therapy: The island has shops now, including Where & Wear (yes, that’s the real name) for fashion, T&C Reno for home decor, and a food mart where Miis can discover their favorite foods. Spoiler: it’s probably pizza.
- DIY Everything: The Palette House Workshop lets you create custom pets, drinks, TV shows, and even design your own clothing. Want your Mii to wear a shirt that says “I’m not bossy, I’m the boss”? Now you can.
- Island Customization: You can literally reshape the island with trees, benches, vending machines, and bouncy playground rides. Because nothing says “I’m living the dream” like a Mii bouncing on a trampoline while eating a donut.
And the big news? Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches on April 16 for Nintendo Switch. It’ll also work on the Nintendo Switch 2, but don’t get too excited—there’s no word on any fancy new features. Yet.
So mark your calendars, start brainstorming Mii ideas, and prepare to live the dream—or at least watch your Miis live theirs while you eat snacks and laugh at their tiny, pixelated lives. 🌴✨
