Oh boy, are you guys ready for some bittersweet news? 🤯 SOUNDGARDEN is working on a new album featuring unreleased recordings with the late, great Chris Cornell! I mean, it’s not like we’ve been waiting for this forever or anything… 😭 The remaining members, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, and Ben Shepherd, are collaborating with producer Terry Date, who previously worked on their iconic albums “Louder Than Love” and “Badmotorfinger”. Because, you know, they didn’t want to mess this up or anything. 🙄
So, it turns out that the band had been working on new material since 2013, and they even had some demos recorded with Chris Cornell before his passing in 2017. Matt Cameron explained that they’re using some of the live rehearsal recordings, as well as vocals from the demos, to create this new album. Because, why not, right? It’s not like they’re trying to cash in on Chris’s legacy or anything… 🤑
The Album: A Tribute to Chris Cornell
The new album is expected to feature eight songs, with Chris Cornell credited as a writer on all of them. Because, let’s be real, he was the heart and soul of SOUNDGARDEN. 🙏 Matt Cameron said that they’re just trying to get the album mixed and finished, and then they’ll worry about releasing it. No rush, guys, we’ve only been waiting for years… 😂
But seriously, it’s great to see the remaining members of SOUNDGARDEN working together to create something new and meaningful. It’s a tribute to Chris Cornell’s legacy, and a reminder that his music will live on forever. 💔 Kim Thayil even said that it’s “very, very important” to them, and that they want to “do right by our collective work” and “do right by our partner and friend”. Aww, thanks guys, you’re making me tear up over here… 😭
Matt Cameron’s Departure from PEARL JAM
In other news, Matt Cameron recently left PEARL JAM after a nearly three-decade run with the band. But don’t worry, it’s not like there’s any drama or anything… 🙅♂️ Matt said that he just wanted to focus on the SOUNDGARDEN project, and pursue other creative endeavors. Yeah, because that’s exactly what I’d do if I were in his shoes… 🤷♂️
It’s worth noting that SOUNDGARDEN was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, because of course they were. 🙌 The surviving members even performed at the event, with guest vocalists Taylor Momsen and Brandi Carlile filling in for Chris Cornell. It was probably a real tear-jerker, but hey, at least they got to rock out one more time… 🤘
So, there you have it folks, a new SOUNDGARDEN album is on the way, and it’s going to be a real emotional rollercoaster. Buckle up, because this is going to be a wild ride… 🎢💥
