In a recent interview with Gino Alache of Rockum TV, ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello talked about the band’s newly released album, “Cursum Perficio”, and how it’s a freaking time machine that takes them back to their glory days. I mean, who needs a time machine when you have a bunch of old dudes playing thrash metal, right?

The album, which marks the band’s first record in ten years, was a challenge to make, according to Bello. The band members had to find time to get together and write the album, which was difficult due to their separate lives and locations. But, as Bello said, “We’re all over the country… We like good weather, we usually go back to L.A. where Scott [Ian, ANTHRAX guitarist] is, out there, and we rent a rehearsal place, and the three of us get together and we bang out songs.” Because, you know, that’s exactly how you make a killer thrash metal album – by banging out songs in a rehearsal room in LA.
As for the sound of the album, Bello said it’s a natural progression of the band’s sound, and that they didn’t try to make it sound a certain way. “It just comes, and I think we just know,” he said. “When we’re in a room together and we just start nodding, you say, ‘Oh, all right, that’s good. All right, yeah, that’s gonna, that’s gonna stay.'” Yeah, because that’s exactly how songwriting works – just a bunch of dudes nodding at each other and saying “yeah, that’s good enough”.
A New Chapter for ANTHRAX
Bello also talked about how “Cursum Perficio” represents a new chapter for the band, and that it’s a darker record than their previous album, “For All Kings”. “I think it’s a bit of a darker record,” he said. “It’s just where we’re at… Maybe the world, maybe the world. We’re all sponges, right? Our minds are sponges. The world comes in, life comes in, and it just sets this mood.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what the world needs – another dark and moody album from a bunch of old dudes.
The album was released on September 18 via Megaforce in the U.S. and Nuclear Blast in Europe, and is available in various formats, including a standard CD, a Target-exclusive CD with a fabric patch, and several different vinyl editions. Because, you know, who doesn’t love buying the same album in multiple formats?
