Oh, great, another collab no one asked for! 🙄 Epic Games, those masterminds of originality, are back at it again, this time dragging LEGO kicking and screaming into the Fortnite abyss with LEGO Fortnite Expeditions. Yes, another 4-player co-op PvE experience because we totally didn’t have enough of those already. Prepare to be underwhelmed!
So, after weeks of breathless speculation (mostly by Epic’s marketing team), we finally get the earth-shattering news: LEGO Fortnite Expeditions is here! 🎉 In this groundbreaking masterpiece, you’ll enroll in the Supernova Academy, a place where your “super-powered potential” will be unlocked. I’m already cringing. You’ll hone your skills, master new powers (probably just reskinned Fortnite abilities), and defeat the evil Mask Maker Daigo. Because nothing says “originality” like a villain with a mask. Daigo wants to destroy the world, because, well, that’s what villains do, right? It’s up to you and three of your closest (or most desperate) friends to stop him. Get ready for some riveting gameplay!
But wait, there’s more! They even unveiled a reveal trailer. As if anyone needed more convincing to dive headfirst into this blocky adventure.
The Supernova Academy, or as I like to call it, the “Hall of Mediocrity,” is your base of operations. Think of it as a meeting spot for expeditionists to plan their next thrilling adventure. It’s like Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2‘s Conton City or Destiny 2‘s Tower, but probably with fewer interesting characters and more awkward emotes. Daigo’s Spires have popped up all over the LEGO Fortnite Expeditions world, and you and your squad can take them down in co-op missions. Prepare for some epic tower defense action… with LEGOs. 🧱
The mission? Explore the map (which is probably just a reskinned Fortnite map with LEGO bricks), aid citizens (who are probably just as thrilled about this as we are), and defeat enemies in wave-based combat. Wave-based combat? Groundbreaking! You can also find additional resources, currency, and new gear. Because who doesn’t love grinding for loot in a LEGO game? You can even play as three distinct hero classes: Shadow Caller, The Hunter, and Rift Ripper. Because three classes are totally enough to keep things interesting. 😴
The Shadow Caller is your typical scout class, allowing you to surveil the battlefield and escape using Shadow Form. Because turning into a flock of invulnerable ravens is totally balanced and not at all annoying. She can also heal allies and hurt enemies using Command Shadow. Because why not?
The Hunter can deal massive damage to a single target and use their Grappler ability to close the gap between them and an enemy. Because nothing says “skill” like grappling your way to victory. They can also deploy the Bull’s-eye’s Blade to mark enemies, multiplying damage and making attacks more accurate for all players. Because teamwork makes the dream work, or something like that.
Lastly, the Rift Ripper uses Rift Shards and Rift Crystals to take out enemies all over the arena while gaining powerups from crystals scattered throughout the arena. Because who needs strategy when you can just spam crystals and hope for the best? 💎
LEGO Fortnite Expeditions arrives tomorrow, June 18. Mark your calendars, folks, because this is definitely going to be the most unforgettable gaming experience of the year… or at least until the next Fortnite collab drops. You can find more details on the official Epic Games Fortnite blog, if you’re into that sort of thing. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! ⚠️
