Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines II: Now With Even MORE Choices (That Probably Don’t Matter)

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines II: Now With Even MORE Choices (That Probably Don't Matter)

Oh, honey, let’s talk about Vampire: The Masquerade, that little tabletop RPG from 1991 that just WON’T die 🧛. Yeah, yeah, four editions, books, a TV show that nobody watched, and some video games. But let’s be real, it’s all about Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines from 2004. Glitchy, buggy, sold like crap, but somehow became a “cult classic.” Sure, Jan.🙄

So, after Bloodlines dropped, some dude named Leonard Boyarsky (who?) was like, “Yeah, we totally want to make a sequel!” Activision, being the smart cookies they are, said “Nah.” Fast forward to 2015, and Paradox Interactive (who even remembers Europa Universalis V, lol 😂) buys White Wolf, the Vampire: The Masquerade license holder. Cue the HYPE! Paradox hires Hardsuit Labs, and BOOM! Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines II gets announced in 2019! 15 years of waiting… for THIS?

But, like, drama! Development went south faster than a vampire in direct sunlight 🌞. Delays, firings, the whole shebang. In 2021, Paradox kicks Hardsuit Labs to the curb. Rumor has it they almost CANCELLED the whole thing! Instead, they gave it to The Chinese Room, the “walking simulator” people. You know, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther? Get ready to walk around and feel SAD, I guess. 😩

The Chinese Room slaps together a trailer in 2023 showing off some stuff from the old studio, like Seattle and some art assets. But they also messed with the gameplay and RPG systems, because why not? Now you play as Phyre, an “elder” vampire. Sounds thrilling! NOT! 😒

More delays! Shocker! But FINALLY, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines II is coming out on October 21, 2025! 21 years after the original. To prove it’s real, someone actually played it at gamescom 2025. And this guy, Brendan Frye, called it “a worthy resurrection.” Did they pay you for this? 🤔

Anyway, the interviewer (who BTW claims to be from Transylvania 🙄) talked to Ian Thomas (narrative director) and Jason Carl (White Wolf marketing guy). Let’s see what they have to say, shall we?

Interviewer: So, are these vampires like Dracula?

Jason Carl: Are you saying vampires are REAL? [laughs]

Wow, so funny and original, I forgot to laugh 🤣. Apparently, these vampires are descended from Caine, who killed Abel. Oh, the drama! He also mentions other vampire mythologies from around the world. So deep!

Ian Thomas: Our game is CANON and will affect the ongoing story!

Oh, great. More lore. Just what we needed.🙄

Interviewer: What connects the two games?

Ian Thomas: It’s the same universe, duh.

He explains that the first game was about a newbie vampire, and this one is about an old vampire. Groundbreaking! The “gunslinger” comes to town! It’s all about managing your reputation with the factions. So original!

Jason Carl: The core story is humanity against the Beast!

Wow, so profound! I am truly enlightened. NOT! 🙄

Ian Thomas: We also have a detective in your head. He loves humans!

Okay, now it’s just getting weird.

Interviewer: Are Fabien’s motives predetermined?

Ian Thomas: It’s pretty simple: “Who killed me?”

Riveting! 😐

Interviewer: Can the player influence Seattle?

Jason Carl: The decisions that they make affect everything!

Uh-huh. Sure they do. Multiple endings! So you can play it again and again and still be bored. 😴

So, there you have it, folks! Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming out. Maybe. Don’t get your hopes up. You’ll probably be disappointed anyway. 😜
