I just spilled my beer all over my shirt because I’m so shocked (not really) that a beauty queen, Ignacia Fernández, is also a death metal vocalist. I mean, who wouldn’t want to listen to a beautiful woman scream her lungs out, right? 🤷♂️ It’s not like we’ve never seen this before, but hey, it’s always cool to see someone who’s into extreme music, even if they do wear a tiara and a ball gown on stage. Anyway, Ignacia was crowned Miss World Chile 2025 and is now representing Chile at the 75th Miss World 2026 in Vietnam. Good luck with that, I guess.
She recently spoke to Finland’s Chaoszine about how she got into death metal and founded her band DECESSUS. Apparently, she’s been into music since she was young and discovered SYSTEM OF A DOWN and GUNS N’ ROSES when she was 11. Who hasn’t been there, right? 🤘 She then discovered EPICA and was impressed by the harsh vocals, which made her want to try screaming herself. And, well, the rest is history, I suppose.
From Beauty Queen to Death Metal Vocalist: The Unlikely Journey
Ignacia explained that she’s always been into music, but never knew what kind of music she wanted to make until she saw ARCH ENEMY live in Japan. She was impressed by Angela Gossow‘s screaming and decided that’s what she wanted to do. And, honestly, who can blame her? 🤷♀️ Angela Gossow is a legend. But, I mean, it’s not like Ignacia is the first woman to scream in a metal band or anything. Still, it’s cool to see her pursuing her passion, even if it’s not exactly the most original thing in the world.
When asked about her first recording session with DECESSUS, Ignacia said it was a weird experience, but she was happy with the result. She also talked about her first live performance, which was apparently a learning experience. She was nervous, but the audience was energetic, and they sold out the tickets, which is pretty cool, I guess. 🎟️
But, let’s be real, the real question on everyone’s mind is: can she actually scream? 🤔 I mean, it’s not like it’s easy to do, but hey, if she’s into it, more power to her, right? And, according to her, she’s planning on doing some clean singing with DECESSUS in the future, which is… interesting, I suppose. The Reception: Surprise, Then Applause
When Ignacia performed a DECESSUS song during the Miss World Chile competition, the audience and judges were taken aback at first, but then gave her a standing ovation. Because, you know, it’s not every day you see a beauty queen screaming her head off on stage. 🤯 One of the judges even said he had never seen anything like it in a beauty pageant, which, honestly, is not that surprising. I mean, it’s not like beauty pageants are known for their metal music or anything.
Anyway, DECESSUS has opened for some big names like INSOMNIUM and JINJER, and they’ve performed at festivals in Finland and Germany.
