So, for those who have been living under a rock, “We Are Connected” is a documentary that dives deep into VOIVOD’s 40-plus-year legacy. It’s got everything: from their humble beginnings in Jonquière to their global journey, sharing stages with the likes of IRON MAIDEN, RUSH, and METALLICA. And, of course, it covers the highs and lows, including the death of co-founding guitarist and composer Dennis “Piggy” D’Amour. 🤘 Because, you know, every metal documentary needs a good dose of tragedy to make it worth watching.
The Documentary: A Labor of Love (or Money?)
Directed by Felipe Belalcazar and produced with full access to the band’s archives, this film features exclusive insights and appearances by metal icons like Tobias Forge (GHOST), Mikael Åkerfeldt (OPETH), and Jason Newsted (METALLICA). However, that collaboration failed to materialize, and the band eventually recruited Belalcazar. 🤔 Maybe they just wanted someone who could deliver a more… streamlined product? 🤑
VOIVOD: The Band That Just Won’t Quit (or Will They?)
VOIVOD is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Québec, known for their unique blend of progressive metal and thrash metal. They’re considered one of the most influential metal bands from the ’80s, influencing and gaining praise from multiple bands and across numerous genres. 🤘 And, hey, they’re still going strong, with their latest album, “Morgöth Tales”, released in 2023 via Century Media, The Orchard, and Sony Music.
The band has been touring in support of their latest album, and they’re set to embark on a 10-city U.S. tour in October, with support from BAT, the Richmond, Virginia metal-punk trio. 🎸 However, frontman Denis “Snake” Bélanger will be sitting out the band’s European tour this summer due to a family matter. 🤕 But don’t worry, he’s being temporarily replaced by former VOIVOD and current E-FORCE vocalist/bassist Eric Forrest. 🤝
