Trump Redecorates America With Fancy New Map Names

Trump Redecorates America With Fancy New Map Names

Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and trying to wrap my head around this one. Apparently, President Donald Trump thinks New Mexico should be called ‘New America.’ I mean, who needs history and cultural significance when you can just rename a state, right? He posted a photo of the state with the new name on Truth Social, and I’m just wondering what’s next. Will we be calling California ‘New Sunshine’ or something? The image shows the outline of the state with the word “Mexico” crossed out in red and replaced with “America.” Because, you know, that’s exactly what we need – more America.

I’m reading that the White House hasn’t announced any effort to rename New Mexico, and I’m not surprised. I mean, Trump can rename geographic landmarks like bodies of water, but he can’t just change the name of a state. That would require some actual legislative action, and we all know how well that goes. The process to rename a state would need to happen within the state itself, and I’m pretty sure the good people of New Mexico are not on board with this idea.

In addition to this little stunt, Trump also renamed Lake Ontario to “Lake America” last month, and the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” in January 2025. Because, why not, right? It’s not like these names have any historical or cultural significance. And now, he’s talking about renaming one of the oceans on either side of the United States. I mean, what’s next? Renaming the continents? The planets?

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is not having it, though. She accused Trump of trying to distract Americans from more pressing issues, like the war in Iran and gas prices. And I’ve got to say, I’m with her on this one. It’s like, come on, Trump, focus on the things that actually matter. Democratic Sen. Martin Heinrich also weighed in, saying that he’ll always call the Gulf of Mexico, Lake Ontario, and New Mexico by their actual names. Amen to that, brother.

The state’s name, by the way, predates the founding of the United States, dating back to the 16th century. So, it’s not like it’s some new, flashy thing that can be changed on a whim. And yet, Trump is still out here trying to exert his presidential power by renaming landmarks. It’s like a big game of “I’m the king of the world, and I can do what I want.”

Trump has even teased potential plans to change the name of one of the oceans, saying that “maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we’ll change them both.” I mean, what’s the point of this, exactly? Is it just to see how many people he can annoy? Because, if so, mission accomplished.

In conclusion, this whole thing is just a big mess, and I’m not sure what Trump is trying to accomplish. But hey, at least it’s giving us something to talk about. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll be calling New Mexico “New America” and the Atlantic Ocean will be renamed “Trump’s Ocean” or something. 🙄 But until then, I’ll just stick to my coffee and try to enjoy the show. After all, it’s not like we have better things to worry about, like actual policy or something.
