Oh joy, another day, another chance for Sony to stuff more games into the ever-expanding void that is PlayStation Plus. Because apparently we haven’t milked this franchise enough yet, Pearl Abyss has announced that Black Desert Online is joining the service, along with two other titles that will surely be the reason I finally cancel my social life. The PS2 memory card community is devastated, I’m sure.
The Never-Ending Saga of PlayStation Plus
PlayStation Plus is like that one friend who just won’t stop giving you gifts, except instead of gifts, it’s a never-ending stream of games that you’ll probably play for an hour before getting distracted by the next shiny thing. This time around, we’ve got Black Desert Online, a game that’s been around for ages, but is still somehow managing to find new ways to suck people in with its sprawling open world and action-oriented combat. I mean, who needs a social life when you can spend hours grinding in a virtual world?
The game is celebrating four years of being self-published, which is just a fancy way of saying that it’s been four years since the developers decided to take matters into their own hands and start printing money. And to celebrate, console players can collect daily login bonuses until July 22, because what’s a better way to celebrate than with a bunch of free stuff?
The Usual Suspects
But wait, there’s more! Black Desert Online is joined by two other titles, Blades of Fire and Farming Simulator 25, because who doesn’t love a good farming simulator? I mean, it’s not like we’ve had enough of those in the past few years. The fact that these games are now available on PlayStation Plus is a testament to the power of corporate synergy and the never-ending quest for more content. Shareholders rejoice, indeed.
The PlayStation Plus Saga Continues
As with all things PlayStation Plus, there’s a catch. The games are only available to Extra or Premium subscribers, because of course they are. And if you’re in a region that’s not the US, UK, or Japan, you might have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on these gems. But don’t worry, it’s not like you’ll be missing out on anything groundbreaking. After all, it’s just more of the same old, same old.
The Road to Nowhere
All of this is just another stop on the never-ending road of live-service games, battle passes, and season passes. It’s a journey that’s filled with microtransactions, DLCs, and other nonsense that’s designed to separate you from your hard-earned cash. But hey, at least we’ve got Black Desert Online to look forward to, right? Live-service enthusiasts are preparing the candles and summoning circle as we speak. Nature is healing, indeed. At this point, even the loading screens have lore. Some executive somewhere got a bonus for this, I’m sure.
