TESLA too lazy to make new music

OH NO, TESLA FANS REJOICE: Dave Rude Says Full-Length Album of New Music Might Not Happen, But Who Needs That When You Can Have a Covers Album? 🤷‍♂️

In a recent interview with Scott Itter of Dr. Music, TESLA guitarist Dave Rude dropped a bombshell that will either excite or disappoint fans, depending on how you look at it. When asked about the possibility of releasing a full-length album of new original material, Rude basically said, “Yeah, that’s not happening anytime soon.” But don’t worry, folks, they’ve got a covers album called “Homage” coming out on July 17, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl, because who needs new music when you can just cover old songs? 🙄

So, what’s the reasoning behind this decision? Well, according to Rude, it’s all about the fans. Apparently, people only want to hear the old stuff, like “Little Suzi” and “Signs”, and not new songs. I mean, who can blame them? Those songs are classics. But, it’s not like the band is just going to phone it in and not try to create new music. Rude explained that they’ve been releasing singles, like “All About Love” and “Time To Rock!”, and that’s been working out pretty well for them. They can just focus on creating one great song at a time, rather than trying to fabricate an entire album.

But, Let’s Be Real, Guys

TESLA’s been around for 40 years, and they’ve got a ton of classic hits under their belt. Do they really need to release a new full-length album? I mean, they’re not exactly a band that’s known for pushing the boundaries of rock music or anything. They’re more like the comfortable pair of jeans that you just can’t seem to get rid of. And, let’s be honest, their last album, “Shock”, was a bit of a snooze-fest. I mean, it was produced by Phil Collen of DEF LEPPARD, so you know it’s going to sound slick and polished, but it’s not exactly the most exciting thing in the world.

Rude also mentioned that the band’s been experimenting with some old soul tunes and cover songs, which is cool, I guess. I mean, who doesn’t love a good cover song? But, at the same time, it’s not like they’re breaking any new ground or anything. They’re just doing what they’ve always done, which is play it safe and stick to what they know.

So, What’s Next for TESLA?

Well, like I mentioned earlier, they’ve got a covers album coming out, which should be fun, I guess. They’ve already released a few singles from it, including their cover of CLIMAX BLUES BAND’s “I Love You” and QUEEN’s “Spread Your Wings”. And, they’ve been touring pretty heavily, so you can catch them live if you’re into that sort of thing. They’ve even got a new drummer, Steve Brown, who’s been filling in for original drummer Troy Luccketta. So, all in all, it’s business as usual for TESLA.

And, hey, if you’re a die-hard TESLA fan, you’ll probably be excited about all this. But, for the rest of us, it’s just more of the same old same old. I mean, they’re not exactly a band that’s going to change the world or anything. They’re just a band that’s going to keep on trucking, playing their hits and covering old songs, until they decide to hang it up for good.

So, there you have it, folks. TESLA’s not going to release a new full-length album anytime soon, but they’ve got a covers album coming out, and they’re still touring and playing their hits. If you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll probably be excited. But, for the rest of us, it’s just more of the same old TESLA. 🤷‍♂️
