Oh boy, are you guys ready for the most exciting thing you’ve ever heard? 🤩There’s a new movie coming out called The Scout, and it’s about a location scout named Sofia who gets to go into people’s homes and take pictures of their apartments and shops 📸. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a whole movie about that? 🙄 It’s not like you could just watch paint dry or something 🎨. But no, seriously, the movie is supposed to be some deep exploration of urban disconnection and finding one’s own identity 🤔. Yeah, because that’s exactly what I want to watch when I’m trying to relax after a long day – a movie about someone else’s existential crisis 🙅♀️.
So, Paula González-Nasser is the writer-director of this masterpiece, and she’s drawing from her own experience as a location scout 📚. Because, you know, that’s not a recipe for disaster or anything 🙃. I mean, who needs objectivity when you can just make a movie about your own life and call it art 🎨? And the best part is, it’s a “celebrated directorial debut” 🎉, which is just code for “nobody’s ever heard of her before, but we’re going to pretend like she’s a big deal” 🤣.
The movie stars a whole bunch of people you’ve never heard of, including Mimi Davila, Rutanya Alda, Max Rosen, Ikechukwu Ufomadu, Sarah Herrman, Alex Goldberg, Peter Mills Weiss, Jackson Devereux, Jesse Ruuttila, Lisa Haas, and Otmara Marrero 🤷♀️. I mean, it’s not like they’re trying to win any awards for most unknown actors in a single film or anything 🏆. And the plot is just so riveting – Sofia drives around New York City, taking pictures of people’s homes and businesses, and then… and then… 🥁 …something personal happens to her 🤯. I won’t give it away, but let’s just say it’s a real game-changer 🚀.
Anyway, if you’re still awake after reading all that, The Scout is coming to a theater near you (if you live in New York or Los Angeles, that is) 🎥. It opens at New York’s Film Forum on September 25 and DTLA’s Alamo Drafthouse on October 2, because who needs a wide release when you can just play it in a couple of hipster theaters 🎬? And then it’ll be in US cinemas in the autumn, because who needs a specific release date when you can just say “autumn” and sound all fancy 🍁? 🙄
