Alright, gamers, summer’s (almost) over, but who cares? 🤷 We’ve got like, what, five games left in 2025 that might not totally suck? Let’s dive into this garbage fire 🔥 of hype, shall we? Spoiler alert: your free time is about to be as non-existent as Half-Life 3.
It’s been a year, I guess. Some games came out. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? More like Clair Obscure: Expedition to the Bargain Bin. Donkey Kong Bananza? Did we really need another Donkey Kong game? Seriously? 🙄 And Death Stranding 2: On The Beach? Still trying to figure out what the hell that even is. But hey, the calendar isn’t dead yet, and we’ve got a few more “gems” that might distract us from the impending doom of, you know, reality. So, buckle up, buttercups, and let’s pretend we’re excited about these things.
Here are the 5 most overhyped upcoming games for the rest of 2025, because apparently we haven’t learned our lesson yet:
5) Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (September 30)
Oh boy, another remake! 🙄 Because we totally needed a prettier version of a game that was already good. Final Fantasy Tactics, the ugly step-sibling of Final Fantasy VII, is getting a facelift. Apparently, the three previous versions weren’t good enough. Poor babies. The PSP version was slow? Cry me a river. 😭
But wait, there’s more! Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is getting the full “definitive” treatment. Full voice acting? Because reading is for losers. 📖 An updated script? So they can ruin the original’s charm? Quality of life improvements? Translation: making it easier for the Zoomers. A classic mode? Finally, something for the boomers!
“Relive this beloved classic,” they say. Or, you know, just play the original. But hey, gotta cash in on that nostalgia, right? 💰 Watch a new generation of gamers get bored halfway through.
4) Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (TBA)
Ah, yes, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game that was announced back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.🦖 Announced at E3 2017? That’s like, a century ago in gamer years. Then Nintendo scrapped it and gave it back to Retro Studios. Because why not?
Now, after years of silence, we get a subtitle and a “glimmer of gameplay.” A glimmer? More like a mirage. They’re promising a release sometime in 2025. Maybe. If the stars align. And if pigs fly. 🐷
Samus gets new psychic powers? Because that’s what Metroid was always about: telekinesis. Not claustrophobic exploration and atmosphere. Nope, gotta have those psychic powers. It’s been a long time coming, and we’re eager to see what Retro has been cooking up…or if it will ever actually come out.
3) Pokémon Legends: Z-A (October 16)
Pokémon: still milking that cow. 🐮 But hey, Pokémon Legends Arceus was kinda cool, I guess. Changed things up a bit. Now we’re getting Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which is basically Arceus but in a city.
Lumiose City, to be exact. Because we didn’t get enough of it in Pokémon X&Y. The open-world exploration is back, but it’s confined to a single city. So, basically, it’s just a really big map with invisible walls.
You’re a trainer trying to make your mark during Lumiose’s “massive urban redevelopment plans.” Because that’s what Pokémon fans want: urban planning. Explore the town by day and battle your way through the ranks (from Z to A) at night. Ooooh! Spooky! Zygarde is gonna be there too, probably. Because legendaries are like Pokémon’s bread and butter.
And Mega Evolution is back! Because why come up with anything new? Just recycle the old stuff. What’s not to love? (A lot, actually.)
2) Hollow Knight: Silksong (TBA)
Oh, Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game that exists only in our dreams. ✨ Almost 5 million wishlists on Steam? That just means 5 million people are gonna be disappointed.
Originally DLC for Hollow Knight, it became its own thing. Seemed poised for release in 2019. LOL. Now it’s “reconfirmed” for a 2025 release. I’ll believe it when I see it. Playable at Gamescom? Sure, Jan.
A companion and sequel to one of the most successful indie games? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We’ve heard it all before. Featuring a “unique spin” on the gameplay formula? Translation: it’s gonna be different, and you might hate it.
Silksong is sure to be one of the biggest games of 2025, if not the decade. IF IT EVER COMES OUT.
…we’ll just believe it’s finally here when it’s actually in our hands. Which is to say, never.
1) Ghost of Yotei (October 2)
Ghost of Tsushima was good, I guess. A breath of fresh air for open-world games. But now we’re getting a sequel: Ghost of Yotei. Because why not?
Set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima. Our protagonist is Atsu, a mercenary with a bunch of weapons. Because samurai are so last century. 😎
The smooth combat is back, but it was the exploration that made the first game special. I’m sure they’ll find a way to screw that up somehow. A “unique card-based twist on quest tracking”? What is this, Yu-Gi-Oh? NPCs come to Atsu at her camp? Because walking is for chumps.
Ghost of Yotei might be a “watershed moment” for the open-world genre. Or it might be another generic open-world game. Who knows? But hey, it’s at the top of our most anticipated games list. For now.
Pixel P. Snarkbyte, widely regarded as the “Shakespeare of Sh*tposts,” is a video game expert with a unique knack for turning pixels into punchlines.
Born in the small town of Respawn, Pennsylvania, Pixel grew up mashing buttons on an ancient NES controller, firmly believing that “blowing into the cartridge” was a sacred ritual passed down through generations.
Pixel P. Snarkbyte: proving that life, much like a buggy open-world game, is better with a little lag-induced chaos.
