OMG! 😱 Thrash metal dinosaurs SADUS, yes, those guys from the Stone Age, have dropped a music video for their “hit” song “Pain”. Apparently, it’s from their new album “The Shadow Inside”, which, like, totally came out last year. We’re supposed to be excited? 🙄 It’s on Nuclear Blast, so someone still believes in them, bless their little hearts. 💖
SADUS frontman/guitarist (yes, BOTH 🎸🎤) Darren Travis, who probably communicates via carrier pigeon 🕊️, had this to say: “Pain is validation. Pain is the ultimate proof of existence.” Oh, really? We thought it was stubbing your toe 🦶 or listening to Nickelback. He goes on about “inner demons” and “active engagement with darkness.” Dude, it’s just a song! 🤣 Are we supposed to contemplate our mortality while headbanging to riffs that sound like they were written on a Commodore 64? 💾
He adds, “Despite the overwhelming presence of suffering, I refuse to be ruled by it.” Okay, Darren, deep breaths. 🧘♂️ Maybe lay off the caffeine? ☕ He also says, “‘Pain’ isn’t just about hurting — it’s about what hurting reveals.” What it reveals is that your songwriting skills peaked in the ’90s. Just sayin’. 🤷♀️
Apparently, these dudes “reunited” in 2017. We didn’t even know they were gone! They spent “several years” writing this masterpiece 👨🍳. Bet it took that long to tune their instruments. They recorded with Juan Urteaga, who’s worked with bands that are actually relevant. 🤔 Wonder if he regrets his life choices now. 😬
The album cover is by some guy named Travis Smith, who also did OPETH. So, at least they got the “dark and brooding” aesthetic down. The press release claims it’s a “contemporary thrash classic.” Sure, if “contemporary” means “sounds like it was recorded in a tin can.” 🥫
SADUS dropped another earth-shattering single called “It’s The Sickness” back in 2022. We totally missed it. 😴 Then came “Ride The Knife”. Still waiting for them to “ride” into obscurity. 💨
“The Shadow Inside” track listing:
01. First Blood (First blood? More like first yawn 🥱)
02. Scorched And Burnt (Like our eardrums after listening to this 👂🔥)
03. It’s The Sickness (Truer words have never been spoken 🤒)
04. Ride The Knife (Careful, you might cut yourself on those rusty riffs 🔪)
05. Anarchy (Anarchy? More like apathy 😒)
06. The Devil In Me (The Devil should ask for royalties 😈)
07. Pain (Accurately describes the listening experience 😩)
08. No Peace (We agree. No peace for our ears ☮️)
09. New Beginnings (More like new endings for this band 🙏)
10. The Shadow Inside (The shadow of irrelevance 👤)
So, why is this album just a duo? Apparently, bassist Steve DiGiorgio was too busy being awesome elsewhere 😎. Darren says they didn’t want to bring in new members “out of respect for Steve.” Right. It’s not like anyone would want to join this sinking ship anyway. 🚢
Darren also admits he got “reinspired” by a phone app. 📱 So, basically, this whole album was written on GarageBand while he was taking a dump. 🚽 Groundbreaking! 🚀
In conclusion, SADUS is back, and they’re… well, they’re still SADUS. If you’re a die-hard fan who’s been living under a rock 🪨 since 1990, you might enjoy this. For the rest of us, there’s always Spotify. 🎧 Just kidding! We’re gonna listen to something good. 👋
