Oh, look, another gritty cop drama where the hero has to team up with the very people he’s sworn to uphold the law against. Groundbreaking stuff, really 🙄. This time, it’s an LAPD officer who suddenly develops a conscience and decides that maybe, just maybe, those “street gangs” aren’t so bad after all. Probably because they both hate the *real* bad guys: a rogue police task force with a “horrific secret.” I bet that secret involves paperwork or something equally terrifying 😱. Get ready for some serious Oscar-baiting performances and enough slow-motion walking to make Zack Snyder jealous 🤣.🍿
An LAPD officer must put aside his differences with the area’s street gangs when he discovers a local police task force is harbouring a horrific secret that endangers the residents of the housing projects he grew up in.
So, the trailer, right? Yeah, it pretty much gives away the entire plot. Why even bother watching the movie now? We already know the good cop will become besties with a reformed gang leader, they’ll uncover the conspiracy, and there will be a dramatic showdown in a dimly lit warehouse. Surprise! 🥳 Thanks for saving me $20 and two hours of my life, marketing team! 🤦♀️
And the cast? Oh, boy. We’ve got Jermaine Fowler, who I’m sure will deliver a nuanced performance as the conflicted officer. Then there’s Justin Long, because every gritty cop drama needs a quirky sidekick, right? RJ Cyler is probably there to provide comic relief, because nothing says “intense thriller” like a few well-timed one-liners 😂. And let’s not forget the musical guests! Freddie Gibbs, YG, and Flying Lotus are all apparently moonlighting as actors now. Maybe they’ll drop a sick beat during the aforementioned warehouse showdown? 🎶
Directed by Ryan Prows, the film stars Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, RJ Cyler, Freddie Gibbs, CM Punk, YG, Flying Lotus, Dermot Mulroney, Jon Oswald, and Nicki Micheaux.
CM Punk and Dermot Mulroney are also in this, which is just… a choice. I’m not sure what kind of roles they’re playing, but I’m already picturing CM Punk as a corrupt cop with a heart of gold (eye roll) and Dermot Mulroney as the slimy politician pulling the strings (double eye roll). 🙄🙄 The inclusion of Jon Oswald and Nicki Micheaux suggests they needed some actual actors to balance things out. 🙏
Night Patrol hits cinemas on 16th January 2025. So mark your calendars, folks! Get ready for another generic cop thriller that will be forgotten faster than you can say “police brutality.” But hey, at least the poster looks cool? 😎
