In a shocking turn of events, OVERKILL bassist D.D. Verni has announced that he won’t be touring with the band due to a bad case of “old-guy shit” 🤣. It seems that Verni’s shoulders are about as useful as a chocolate teapot, and he needs to rest them or risk needing shoulder replacement surgery 🤕. We’re not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that Verni is getting old or that he’s still trying to rock out like it’s 1999 🤘.
In a recent interview with The New York Hardcore Chronicles Live!, Verni explained that he had surgery on his rotator cuff and bicep tear (yeah, ouch! 🤯), and now he can only play bass standing up, but not sitting down 🤔. We’re not sure what kind of dark magic is at play here, but it seems that Verni’s bass playing skills are being held hostage by his creaky joints 🎸. On the bright side, he’s still writing music for the band and has most of the new album done, demoed, and ready to go 🎶. So, there’s hope for us yet! 🙏
Meanwhile, OVERKILL is touring with TESTAMENT and DESTRUCTION as a four-piece, with Christian Olde Wolbers filling in on bass 🤝. We’re not sure what’s more impressive, the fact that Olde Wolbers can fill in on bass or that he can still rock out with the big boys 🤘. Longtime guitarist Derek Tailer is sitting out the tour, but we’re sure he’s just taking a break to recharge his metal batteries ⚡️.
In other news, Verni confirmed that he’s still a full-fledged member of OVERKILL and is working on new music 🎸. He even gave us a sneak peek into the band’s upcoming album, saying that it’s “pretty much done musically” and that they’re looking to record it at the end of their US tour with TESTAMENT and DESTRUCTION 📆. We can’t wait to get our hands on that new album and rock out like it’s 1999 again 🤘!
But wait, there’s more! Verni also told us that he had to sit out the band’s Latin American tour in April 2024 due to shoulder surgery 🏥. And in September 2024, he had to recruit ex-KREATOR bassist Christian “Speesy” Giesler as a temporary replacement 🤝. We’re starting to think that Verni’s shoulders are more fragile than a toddler’s ego 🤣.
And because you can never have too much of a good thing, Verni also talked about the band’s upcoming album, saying that they’re “demoing stuff right now” and that they have “maybe nine or 10 songs kind of scratched out” 🎶. We’re not sure what’s more exciting, the fact that new music is on the way or that Verni is still trying to rock out despite his creaky joints 🤘.
In conclusion, it seems that OVERKILL is still going strong, despite Verni’s “old-guy shit” 🤣. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for the band, and we’re sure that Verni will be back to his old self in no time, rocking out like a madman and throwing those bass lines like they’re going out of style 🤘. So, stay tuned, folks, and remember: you’re never too old to rock out 🤟!
