Big news, folks! 🚨👀 Tom Araya, the legendary lead vocalist and bassist of the iconic thrash metal band SLAYER, has been spotted at the Texas Motor Speedway, and we’re not sure what’s more surprising, the fact that he’s there or that he’s not headbanging on stage 🤯🎸. As the Grand Marshal of the Würth 400 presented by Liqui Moly, Araya got to deliver the coveted “Drivers, start your engines” command, and we’re pretty sure the drivers were more excited to meet him than to actually start their engines 🚗💨. We mean, who wouldn’t want to meet the man behind “Reign In Blood” 🤘🔥?
But wait, it gets better! 🤔 Araya’s participation was announced last week, and he said in a statement, “Excited to be the Grand Marshal for the Würth 400. SLAYER, NASCAR reign in speed!” 🚗🔥 Um, Tom, we think you mean “reign in blood,” but we’ll let that slide 😂. After all, it’s not every day you get to see a metal legend at a NASCAR event 🤯.
As the frontman of SLAYER for over four decades, Araya has become a household name in the heavy metal scene 🤘, and the band has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, including multiple gold-certified releases and a multi-platinum record 📀. They’ve also produced 11 studio albums and earned two Grammy Awards 🏆, because, why not? 🤷♂️ But let’s be real, the real award is the fact that they’ve been able to keep their music relevant for so long, despite the fact that some of their fans have probably been listening to the same album on repeat since the ’80s 🙃.
SLAYER has been on their final world tour since 2018, but they’ve been making select appearances here and there, including a stop at the Texas Motor Speedway for the inaugural Sick New World Texas music festival on October 24 🎸. The festival will feature over 50 performers across four stages, because who needs a social life when you can spend your days listening to metal music 🤘? And, as if that’s not enough, they’re also celebrating the 40th anniversary of “Reign In Blood” by performing the album in its entirety in Shakopee, Minnesota on September 4, and Los Angeles on November 13 and November 14 🎉.
Joining Araya in a primary dignitary role was 2026 NBA Rookie Of The Year and Dallas Mavericks standout Cooper Flagg 🏀, because what’s more metal than basketball, right? 🤣 Flagg was announced as the Honorary Pace Car Driver for Sunday’s marquee race and got to drive a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette to pace the NASCAR Cup Series field to the green flag 🚗💨. Meanwhile, 101-year-old military veteran Don Graves sang the national anthem, because who needs a metal band when you can have a 101-year-old veteran singing the national anthem 🎤?
The Würth 400 presented by Liqui Moly headlined a NASCAR tripleheader at Texas Motor Speedway, which also included the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series SpeedyCash.com 250 on Friday, May 1, and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 340 on Saturday, May 2 🏎️. And, because why not, here are some videos of Tom Araya’s appearance at the event, because you clearly haven’t had enough of him yet 📹.
