Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Trump Media & Technology Group, and I just can’t help but chuckle. It seems they’re going to start selling Wall Street firms quicker access to market-moving posts from President Donald Trump. Because, you know, the president’s posts are just that influential. I mean, who needs actual news when you have Trump’s tweets, right? The company said this new data feed, known as an API, will be available to institutional customers starting on August 1. I’m sure the folks at Wall Street are just thrilled to get their hands on this information.
It’s not like this is a new concept or anything, competing social networks also sell traders access to their APIs. But hey, when it’s Trump’s posts, it’s just more exciting, I guess. Trump Media announced that the new data feed will help add to their revenue stream, because who doesn’t want to make a buck off the president’s social media activity? It’s just another example of the president blurring the lines between his business and his White House duties, but hey, that’s just politics, right?
Kevin McGurn, the interim CEO at TMTG, said in a statement that “Markets already move on Truth Social posts.” Well, yeah, that’s true, but it’s not like they’re moving in a good way or anything. I mean, have you seen the stock market lately? It’s like a rollercoaster, and Trump’s tweets are just the ticket to make it go off the rails. McGurn also said that the faster-access offering would help add to Trump Media’s revenue stream, because, you know, they need more money to, uh, “monetize proprietary assets.”
The company is calling this new data feed “Truth API,” and it’s supposed to deliver a direct, licensed, real-time feed of the platform’s most market-moving posts. Because, you know, the president’s posts are just that important. McGurn added that “Truth API delivers a direct, licensed, real-time feed of the platform’s most market-moving Truths while advancing our strategy to monetize proprietary assets through a high-margin, recurring revenue stream.” Wow, that’s a mouthful, and I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that it sounds like a bunch of corporate jargon.
As I finish reading this article, I just can’t help but think that this is all just a big show. I mean, who needs actual news when you have Trump’s tweets, right? It’s all just a big spectacle, and we’re all just along for the ride. And hey, at least it’s entertaining, right? So, the next time you see a Trump tweet, just remember, it’s not just a tweet, it’s a market-moving event, and someone’s making money off it. Ah, the joys of modern politics. 🙄
