Square Enix milks nostalgia with Final Fantasy Resonance pre-orders now live

Oh joy, another Final Fantasy game to add to the ever-growing list of RPGs that will consume my life. Final Fantasy Resonance is the latest installment in the beloved series, and it’s packed to the brim with content, because what’s a modern game without a gazillion hours of gameplay, right? The standard and deluxe editions are now available for pre-order on the Switch and Switch 2, because of course they are. I mean, who needs a social life when you can spend it playing a game that’s just begging to be completed at 100%?

The Story So Far

The game takes place in a brand-new world, because Square Enix apparently ran out of old worlds to reuse. The story follows Rain, the commander of Grandshelt’s airship squadron, and his trusty sidekick Lasswell, as they try to stop the Sworn Six from destroying the world. Because, you know, that’s not a trope at all. Along the way, they’ll meet new friends, like Fina, a mysterious girl with a penchant for getting into trouble, and Lid, the resident airship mechanic who’s vying for the title of Cid. Because, you know, Cid is a title now, not a person. How quaint.

Gameplay and Features

The gameplay system is a faithful advancement of the classic turn-based combat that Final Fantasy is known for, because why fix what ain’t broke, right? The timeline system is back, and it’s still as genre-standard as ever. But, hey, who needs innovation when you can just refine what already works? The vision system is the new hotness, allowing players to harness the power of their favorite characters and swap them between party members. Because, you know, strategy is all about exploiting broken mechanics. And, of course, there are legacy Final Fantasy characters, including Cloud, because we all know that Cloud is the only character that matters.

Collectibles and Mini-Games

Completionists, rejoice! There are plenty of mini-games and collectibles to keep you busy for hours on end. You can play jump rope, catch moogles in mog tag, or collect tablets to redeem for valuable items. Because, you know, the real fun is in the grinding. And, hey, who needs a social life when you can spend it playing mini-games and collecting digital trinkets?

Conclusion

Final Fantasy Resonance is shaping up to be another massive time-sink, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. With its engaging story, refined gameplay, and plethora of features, it’s a game that will keep you busy for hours on end. So, go ahead and pre-order it, and kiss your social life goodbye. As I always say, “A good game is like a bad relationship – it’ll consume your life, but at least it’ll be fun.” Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go pre-order my copy and start my journey to 100% completion. Wish me luck, and a social life.
