Oh boy, are you guys ready for this? 🤯 Legendary English rock supergroup ASIA is back with a new studio album, “Indigo”, and I’m not sure if I should be excited or concerned for my sanity 🤪. I mean, it’s been a while since we’ve heard from these guys, and I’m not sure if the world is ready for another dose of their signature blend of prog rock and… well, more prog rock 🤣. But hey, who am I to judge? The album is set to drop on November 6, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl, and features the current lineup of Geoff Downes (keyboards), Virgil Donati (drums), John Mitchell (guitar), and Harry Whitley (bass, vocals). So, buckle up, folks! 🚀
ASIA’s new album, “Indigo”, is a continuation of their melodic progressive rock sound, with a few surprises along the way. The album features some of the final compositions written by the late John Wetton, including “Tattoo Indigo (Parts 2 & 3)” and “Chesapeake Bay”. And, because why not, the album also includes a bonus track featuring Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER) on drums. Because, you know, every album needs a little bit of Mike Portnoy 🤷♂️.
The Story Behind the Album
According to Geoff Downes, the initial writing period for the album began in 2015, following the release of their previous album “Gravitas” in 2014. However, the project was put on hold due to John Wetton’s illness and subsequent passing. But, as Downes said, “it was always in my mind that at some point it would be a shame not to finish off some of these songs and finally release them as part of an ASIA album.” And so, here we are, with a brand new album that’s sure to delight fans of the band and… well, maybe a few others 🤔.
Downes also commented on the album’s first single, “The Traveller (Into The Light)”, saying it’s a “high-power-energy piece with a few elements of prog trickery but retaining the accessible-chorus block, which was always a signature of ASIA’s music from the very beginning.” And, because I’m a sucker for a good quote, he also said “play it loud!” 🤟
The Music
So, what can we expect from “Indigo”? Well, from what I’ve heard, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There are some great moments, like the soaring melodies on “Arcadia” and the acoustic guitar work on “Chesapeake Bay” (featuring Steve Howe). But, there are also some moments that feel a bit… dated. I mean, it’s not like ASIA is trying to reinvent the wheel here, they’re just doing what they do best: making prog rock for people who love prog rock 🤘.
And, let’s be real, the album’s tracklisting is a bit of a mouthful. I mean, 16 tracks? That’s a lot of music, folks. But, hey, if you’re a fan of ASIA, you’re probably not complaining 🙅♂️. The album includes tracks like “The Traveller (Into The Light)”, “Change Of Heart”, “Is This The Life?”, and “Tattoo Indigo (Part 1)”, among others.
In conclusion, ASIA’s new album “Indigo” is a thing that exists, and it’s coming out on November 6, 2026. If you’re a fan of the band, you’ll probably love it. If you’re not, well… you might still enjoy it, but no promises 🤷♂️.
