Atreyu’s Brandon Saller: “We’re Not Political, We Just Accidentally Wrote Songs That Sound Political, Whoops”

ATREYU ORLANDO 54

So, Ore Bihovsky from TotalRock’s “Louder” show decided to grace ATREYU vocalist Brandon Saller with a question of utmost importance: Has ATREYU, like, totally jumped on the activist bandwagon? 🙄 Saller, bless his heart, responded (and BLABBERMOUTH.NET transcribed it, because who else would?): Nah, they’re not about that preachy life. ATREYU is your safe space from the “violent and chaotic sort of downward spiral of shit.” Because, you know, we all need a metal band to shield us from reality. Like, thanks guys, for solving all the world’s problems by not acknowledging them. 🙏

Saller, ever the woke warrior (lol, jk), also shared some deep thoughts on how to make the metal and hardcore scene more inclusive for the delicate flowers of the world – women, trans folks, and the non-binary squad. His profound wisdom? Remember it’s a counterculture, duh! 🤯 It’s all about the outcasts and weirdos coming together. But, like, don’t be *too* inclusive, okay? We can’t have just *anyone* ruining our scene. He thinks if people could just “remember that, then it’d be better off.” Groundbreaking stuff, really. 🏆 So basically, just keep gatekeeping, but pretend you’re not. Got it. 👍

And because no band is complete without milking their “new” single for all its worth, ATREYU dropped a music video for “Dead.” Directed, filmed, edited, and produced by some dude named Sean Stiegemeier. Probably cost them a fortune. 💰Bet it was worth every penny. NOT. 🤣

Remember that time ATREYU blacked out their social media and posted “R.I.P.”? Some poor, gullible fans actually thought they were breaking up. 😂 But don’t worry, it was just a “tease” for “Dead.” Because nothing screams “marketing genius” like tricking your fans into thinking you’re done. 🤡

ATREYU is currently on tour celebrating the 21st anniversary of their groundbreaking (cough, cough) album, “The Curse.” Featuring hits like “Bleeding Mascara” and “Right Side Of The Bed.” 🙄Those songs were so iconic that they helped cement ATREYU as one of the “defining forces” in the mid-2000s metalcore scene. Someone should probably tell them that it’s not 2005 anymore. 🤷‍♀️

Since their humble beginnings (aka, the turn of the millennium), ATREYU has achieved RIAA gold records, Top 20 Billboard 200 debuts, and spots on major film and video-game soundtracks. Because that’s what *really* matters, right? 💰 Their latest masterpiece, “The Beautiful Dark Of Life,” (such a creative title) debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums. It has already racked up over 75 million streams. Wow, they are SO relevant. NOT. 🔥

In case you forgot who these guys are, here’s the lineup:

Brandon Saller – lead vocals (aka, the guy who talks about being inclusive but probably isn’t)
Dan Jacobs – guitar (because every band needs a guitar player)
Travis Miguel – guitar (because two guitars are better than one, right?)
Porter McKnight – bass/vocals (the unsung hero of the band, probably)

Enjoy this “amazing” music video. Or don’t. I really don’t care. 😴
