The former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer sat down with Mike Hsu of 100 FM The Pike to discuss the recently released “Sound & Vision Live” concert film, which features an all-star lineup including Paul Rodgers, Geezer Butler, Corey Taylor, Lzzy Hale, and many more. The recording, produced by Sorum, was captured live at the inaugural Palm Springs Sound & Vision Awards at the historic Plaza Theatre on March 2, 2026. Sorum had high praise for Lzzy Hale’s vocal performance on a cover of Bad Company’s “Shooting Star”, saying “I think people are gonna be blown away… Even Geezer Butler came up to me and said, ‘That’s the best singer I’ve heard since Tina Turner.'” Wow, that’s quite a compliment, Geezer! 🙌
The Velvet Revolver Reunion Rumors
But the real tea is that Sorum talked about a possible reformation of Velvet Revolver, the band he formed in 2002 with fellow Guns N’ Roses members Duff McKagan and Slash. When Hsu suggested a Velvet Revolver comeback with Lzzy on lead vocals, Sorum said “Whew. Yeah, I mean, come on. I’d do it. [Laughs] I don’t know what those other two guys [Slash and Duff] are up to, but give ’em a call. [Laughs]” Um, is this a real thing? Can we make this happen, please? 🤞
I mean, Velvet Revolver’s history is a bit complicated, with Scott Weiland’s departure and subsequent passing in 2015. But hey, if Lzzy Hale is on board, I’m on board. Who needs a coherent band lineup when you have talent and charisma, right? 🤷♂️ The band’s last reunion was in 2012 for a tribute concert, and there were rumors of a possible collaboration with Corey Taylor, but that never panned out. Maybe this time will be different? 🤔
Sound & Vision Live: A Charity Album
The “Sound & Vision Live” album is not just a random collection of rock songs; it’s a charity album supporting music education in underserved public elementary schools through Adopt The Arts, a foundation co-founded by Sorum and Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Lynch. The album features archival photography, original artwork, and extensive liner notes celebrating the performances and the enduring legacies of Paul Rodgers and Geezer Butler. It’s a pretty cool way to give back to the community, and who wouldn’t want to support a good cause? 🎸
The album was recorded by Kemble Walters and Miguel Sosa, mixed by Walters at Goodnoise Studios in Palm Springs, and mastered for vinyl by Grammy-winning mastering engineer Howie Weinberg and Will Borza.
