Xbox Games Showcase 2025: Prepare to be Underwhelmed by a Plague Tale Spin-Off Coming in 2026 (Maybe)

Okay, gamers, gather ’round for some groundbreaking news that’s totally gonna redefine the meaning of “video game.” Asobo Studio, the geniuses behind *A Plague Tale: Innocence* (a game so good, it made us cry… from boredom 😭) and *A Plague Tale: Requiem* (because who doesn’t love more rats?), have blessed us with *Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy*. Yes, you read that right. Legacy. Because apparently, rats and medieval misery deserve a legacy. This masterpiece was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, after some genius accidentally leaked it online the day before. Oops! 🙊 Someone’s getting fired… or promoted, because free marketing, am I right? 🤷‍♀️

So, get this: *Resonance* is a completely original story, because who needs to continue the perfectly adequate story of Amicia and Hugo? Instead, we get Sophia, a pirate captain who’s basically Lara Croft meets Jack Sparrow, but in the 14th century. She bumps into our favorite plague-ridden siblings as they’re trying to get to La Cuna. La Cuna? Sounds like a fancy diaper brand, but okay. 🏝️

The game is set FIFTEEN years before *Requiem*. Yes, because we needed to know what Sophia was doing before she became… well, Sophia. The trailer shows her raiding tombs (because apparently pirates do that now), sailing through Venice (because why not?), and battling in a Spartan-like arena (because historical accuracy is overrated). Oh, and she finds a Minotaur carcass covered in golden lights. Because subtlety is for losers. ✨ I’m sure the rats are just backstage, waiting for their grand entrance. 🐀

Asobo claims *Resonance* blends “combat, myth, and fate.” Combat? In a *Plague Tale* game? Sounds like someone’s been playing too much *God of War*. Myth? Minotaurs, baby! Because why stick to the Black Death when you can throw in some Greek mythology? Fate? Well, we all know the fate of *Plague Tale* characters: misery and death. Yay! 🎉

Sophia will navigate mazes, traps, and puzzles while escaping a shadowy presence. Sounds thrilling…ly generic. But wait, where are the rats? The very reason we suffered through the first two games? Asobo, don’t tell me you’re trying to ditch the rats! That’s like ditching Mario’s mustache! 😡

Some people at CGM actually liked the previous *Plague Tale* games, giving them glowing reviews. Apparently, “engaging and dark story” and “imperative to fans of the original” are code words for “mildly entertaining” and “we had nothing else to play.” But hey, who am I to judge? I’m just a humble troll, spreading the good word about the next potentially mediocre game in the *Plague Tale* universe. 🤡

*Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy* is coming to Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass, PS5, and Steam in 2026. So mark your calendars, folks, and get ready for another dose of medieval misery, mythological mayhem, and maybe, just maybe, some rats. Or not. Who knows? Asobo certainly doesn’t. 🤷‍♂️
