Trump Claims Credit For Walmart's Summer BBQ Price Drop

I’m sitting here with my coffee, reading about President Trump taking credit for Walmart’s summer sale, and I just can’t help but chuckle. According to the article, Trump claimed that a request from his administration led to discounts on thousands of items for summer road trips and pool parties. Bless their hearts, I think someone needs to remind him that summer sales are a thing, and they happen every year.

I mean, come on, folks, Walmart’s summer rollbacks are not exactly breaking news. The country’s largest grocer highlighted some of its seasonal sales, which are common for the summer, including rollbacks on ground beef, ribs, soda, and more at Walmart and Sam’s Club locations. It’s not like Trump’s administration had anything to do with it. Earlier on Monday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Walmart lowered prices “at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday.” He even highlighted an alleged 15% discount on beef. You can’t make this stuff up.

Now, I’m not one to fact-check, but it seems like Trump’s claims are missing some important context. For example, the discounts had been in place for a week before Trump’s Truth Social post. And, according to Walmart’s press release, the discounts are on items like ground beef, corn on the cob, and cherries, which are all in season. It’s not like they’re giving away free burgers or something. Sam’s Club is also offering discounts on 250 items, including different types of meat like chicken wings, beef hot dogs, and ribs. I guess that’s what I call a real summer sale.

It’s not the first time Trump has connected Walmart’s discounts to his administration. He promoted a similar storyline in 2025 when he claimed that Walmart’s annual Thanksgiving meal basket was cheaper than the one the year before. But, as we all know, that claim was missing some important context, like the fact that the 2025 basket had fewer items and more products from Walmart’s “Great Value” store brand. Somewhere in Atlanta, a producer thought this sounded terrifying, and now we have a whole article about it.

The article also mentions that grocery prices have risen 2.7% over the past year, which is less than overall inflation of 4.2%. But, as we all know, grocery-price inflation is still more than double compared to two years ago. The reason grocery prices seem all over the place is because every food product and industry is different. Take beef, for example, which rose to a record $9.64 per pound in April, up 13% from the previous year, according to USDA data. Other produce like tomatoes have also had massive price increases because of a frigid winter combined with tariffs and diesel costs.

In conclusion, it seems like Trump is taking credit for something that’s just a normal part of summer sales. I mean, who doesn’t love a good summer sale? But, let’s be real, it’s not like Trump’s administration had anything to do with it. So, the next time you’re shopping at Walmart and you see those discounted prices, just remember, it’s not Trump’s doing, it’s just good old-fashioned summer sales. And, as I always say, you can’t make this stuff up, but I guess Trump can try. 😊
