Oh boy, are you guys ready for this?! 🤯 ANTHRAX is finally releasing a new album, and it’s only been 10 whole years since their last one! I mean, who needs new music when you can just tour the same old songs for a decade, right? 😂 “Cursum Perficio” is set to drop on September 18, and I’m sure it’ll be totally worth the wait. I mean, it’s not like they’ve been sitting on their hands doing nothing for the past 10 years or anything… 🙄

So, what’s the story behind this new album? Well, according to guitarist Scott Ian, the new single “The Edge Of Perfection” is “the greatest ANTHRAX song in the history of ANTHRAX.” Wow, that’s a pretty bold claim, Scott! I mean, I’m sure it’s a great song and all, but come on, you’re not exactly known for your humility, dude. 😂 The song was written about his family and striving to maintain “the edge of perfection”, which is just a really fancy way of saying “I’m a dad and I’m trying to be perfect, but I’m not”. 🙄

The Wait is Over (Finally)

Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante told Metal Hammer magazine that he had written the music for “The Edge Of Perfection” way back before COVID, and it’s just been sitting around collecting dust. I mean, who hasn’t been there, right? You write a song, and then you’re just like, “Meh, I’ll get around to recording it eventually… maybe in 5 years or so.” 🤷‍♂️

But seriously, the band has been working on this album for a while now, and they’re really excited about it. Benante even went so far as to say that the response to the first single, “It’s For The Kids”, has been amazing, and that it’s like a “love letter to our fans”. Aw, that’s so sweet, Charlie! I’m sure the fans will just eat it up like the good little sheep they are. 🐑

A Decade in the Making

So, why did it take so long for ANTHRAX to release a new album? Well, according to Benante, it’s because he just didn’t feel like writing anything until now. I mean, fair enough, dude. Sometimes you just need a break, you know? But 10 years is a pretty long break, even for a band that’s been around as long as ANTHRAX. 😴

But hey, at least they’re back now, and they’re bringing the heat with “Cursum Perficio”. The album title translates to “my journey has come to an end”, which is just a really fancy way of saying “I’m old and I’m done”. 🙃 Just kidding, Charlie! I’m sure you’ve got plenty of gas left in the tank.

The album will be available in a million different formats, because why not? I mean, who needs just a regular old CD or vinyl when you can have a Target-exclusive CD with a fabric patch, or a Metal Injection-exclusive white vinyl double LP with a pop-up gatefold? 🤯 It’s like they say: “You can never have too many formats, right?” 😂

Anyway, that’s it for now. I hope you’re all as excited as I am (not really) for the new ANTHRAX album. Let’s just hope it’s worth the wait… 🤔
