The new Autonomous Warfare Command will focus on robotics and autonomous weapons, and it will be led by a four-star general, which is a big deal.
The Autonomous Warfare Command is a significant development, and Hegseth said it’s necessary because the autonomous and robotic revolution has enormous implications for equipment, doctrine, organization, and the assumptions that have governed warfare for decades. I’m not sure what to make of this, but it’s clear that Hegseth is trying to make some big changes.

Hegseth announced that the three will chair a new future of warfare study group known as Project Meridian. He said, “We are no longer the woke department or the weak department. Simple translation of that: No fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos, no wimps, no radicals, just warriors, just tough, ready, committed troops.” I’m not sure what to make of this, but it’s clear that Hegseth is trying to make a point about the kind of culture he wants to promote in the military.
The attendance list for the speech was different this year, with Hegseth’s office inviting around 600 junior officers and noncommissioned officers to attend. Hegseth blasted the media’s coverage of US military operations, likening it to “treason” while also conceding that a “free press” is “important.” It’s interesting to see how the military is engaging with the media and trying to shape the narrative around its operations.
