More Unnecessary Sequels And Reboots To Binge On Streaming This Weekend

New movies are flooding streaming platforms this week, because of course they are. It’s not like we need any more content to watch, but here we are. As always, I’ve got the rundown of what’s coming to a screen near you, because someone has to.

If you’re feeling lazy this weekend, don’t worry, you can just stay on your couch and binge-watch to your heart’s content. I mean, who needs human interaction, anyway? The theater is still the best way to experience movies, but let’s be real, some weekends it’s just too much effort to get off the couch and haul yourself to the multiplex.

New Releases: Because You Clearly Didn’t Have Enough Options Already

This week, you can watch Anya Taylor-Joy try to throw Chris Evans into a volcano, because that’s exactly what we needed. Or, if you’re in the mood for something a bit more serious, you can check out documentaries about Norm Macdonald and the most valuable hip-hop album in history. Because, you know, those are things that exist now. If those titles don’t strike your fancy, don’t worry, there are plenty of other recent streaming releases to choose from.

The Invite, a new comedy starring Seth Rogen and directed by Olivia Wilde, premieres on HBO Max this week. Because what’s more hilarious than a dinner party gone wrong? The film follows a married couple who invite their new neighbors over for a night of awkwardness, which somehow escalates into a situation where the guests start hitting on their hosts. Yeah, that sounds like a real laugh riot.

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more serious, you can check out The Weight, a Sundance 2026 selection that stars Ethan Hawke as a single father who’s wrongfully sent to prison. Because, you know, that’s not a trope we’ve seen before. The film follows Hawke’s character as he navigates the prison system and tries to get back to his daughter before she becomes a ward of the state. It’s tense, it’s rich, and it’s got a memorable supporting turn from Russell Crowe, so that’s a thing.

More Movies: Because the Content Mines Remain Fully Operational

Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story, a documentary about the actress and comedian, premieres on Netflix this week. Because Judd Apatow clearly has nothing better to do than release documentaries about comedians. The film is co-directed by Neil Berkeley, and it’s sure to be a real treat for fans of Bamford’s unique brand of humor.

The Cycle, a new horror film starring Deborah Ann Woll and Jeffrey Donovan, premieres on Shudder this week. Because what’s Halloween season without a few cheap jump scares? The film follows a police investigation into a horrific crime scene, and it’s sure to be a real thrill ride. Or, you know, not.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can check out the live-action version of Moana on Disney+. Because, you know, the original animated film wasn’t enough. The live-action version stars Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui, and it’s sure to be a real treat for fans of the original. Or, you know, not.

As the streaming wars continue to rage on, it’s clear that the only winners are the executives who get to greenlight all this content. Somewhere, a whiteboard has the words “bigger,” “darker,” and “multiverse” scribbled on it, and that’s all that really matters. So, go ahead and keep watching, folks. The Franchise Resurrection Department is hard at work, and they won’t stop until every last drop of nostalgia has been squeezed from your wallet.
