Farming simulators are about to get a dose of something different, as the horror-tinged Grave Seasons will release on August 14, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The release date was shared during the Xbox Partner preview, because apparently Microsoft just loves to watch us water our crops while screaming internally.
If you haven’t been keeping up with Grave Seasons, it’s a gorgeous pixel art farming simulator set in the kind of cozy little town you’d expect, but with one big twist: one of the townspeople is a supernatural serial killer, and it’s up to you to investigate and find the killer before they bring an end to the entire town and your hopes of running a cozy little farm. According to the game’s Steam page, “After a treacherous escape from jail, you’ve made it to your new home in Ashenridge, an idyllic town with some seriously unsettling vibes.” Sounds like my last Tinder date.
“While trying to establish your new farming life and embed yourself in the neighborhood, murders start to occur in the town, putting your new peaceful life at risk.”
Essentially, you’ll need to do all the standard farming stuff—water crops, milk cows, cry into your scarecrow—while simultaneously investigating the killings and trying to identify the next victim, and then save them. But perhaps the game’s most fascinating-looking feature is its robust Stardew Valley-like romance system, where, yes, you can even romance the killer without knowing it. Nothing says “I love you” like accidentally marrying the town’s resident murderer. 💀
Grave Seasons is currently playable at PAX East if you’re in attendance, at the Blumhouse Games booth. But if you’re not, there’s luckily a lengthy 11-minute gameplay demo on Blumhouse’s official YouTube channel. You can watch it below—just don’t blame me if you start side-eyeing your local farmer’s market vendors after.
Grave Seasons is one of the more inventive takes we’ve ever seen on the farming sim genre, and hopefully that unique take pans out into something special. You can see everything else announced during the recent Xbox Partner Preview here.
And just in case you thought your peaceful farming dreams were safe, Grave Seasons launches on August 14 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. So mark your calendars, sharpen your pitchforks, and maybe install a motion-sensor light by your barn—you never know who’s lurking in the corn maze. 👻🌽
