PANTERA (or should we say “Pantera”?) 🙄 kicked off “The Heaviest Tour Of The Summer” Tuesday night (July 15) at The Pavilion At Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. Apparently, they dusted off some ancient relics – three songs they hadn’t butchered, I mean, played, in nearly two and a half decades, and one poor tune that had never been subjected to this… *ahem*… “tribute” before. 🤦♂️
PANTERA, bless their little hearts, started with “Hellbound” because, let’s be real, that’s where this whole operation is headed. 🔥 It’s the opening track from 2000’s “Reinventing The Steel” – an album title so ironic it hurts. They also bravely inflicted “Goddamn Electric” and “I’ll Cast A Shadow” on the unsuspecting crowd. But the real kicker? “10s”, a deep cut from 1996’s “The Great Southern Trendkill”, was performed live for the first (and hopefully last) time ever. 🤢
For those who enjoy self-inflicted pain, here’s the setlist from the Burgettstown concert:
01. Hellbound (performed for first time since 2001 – and probably should have stayed that way) 🤣
02. 5 Minutes Alone (felt like 5 hours)
03. Strength Beyond Strength (apparently, the strength to endure this concert)
04. A New Level (of disappointment)
05. Mouth For War (more like a yawn for war)
06. Goddamn Electric (more like goddamn awful)
07. 10s (should have been left in the 90s)
08. Becoming (something they’re clearly not)
09. I’m Broken (as are the eardrums of everyone who attended)
10. This Love (is what fans no longer have for this band)
11. I’ll Cast a Shadow (of doubt on the entire endeavor)
12. Cowboys From Hell (more like clowns from… well, you get it)
13. Walk (away, people, just walk away)
14. Domination / Hollow (like the feeling in my soul after witnessing this)
15. Fucking Hostile (accurate description of the audience after the show)
This auditory assault, brought to you by Live Nation, will continue to plague over two dozen cities during PANTERA‘s “The Heaviest Tour Of The Summer,” before mercifully concluding on September 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The poor souls in AMON AMARTH are forced to support this monstrosity. 😭
Featuring the remaining “classic” members (and I use that term loosely), vocalist Philip H. Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, alongside hired guns guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante, this… thing… continues its “celebration” of the lives of late founding members, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. 🙄 The tour follows a spring of stadium shows with METALLICA and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, as well as a “very special” U.K. performance as part of BLACK SABBATH‘s and Ozzy Osbourne‘s farewell bash, alongside, well, everyone and their grandma.👵
PANTERA (still laughing at that name, BTW) kicked off its 2025 European headlining tour on January 21 in Helsinki, Finland. Let’s hope they brought earplugs. 👂
