Redcoat: From Page to Screen—Because the Book Wasn’t Boring Enough

Redcoat 1920x1080 1

Oh, for the love of all that is holy, Atlas Entertainment and Ghost Machine 👻 are turning *Redcoat* into a movie. Yes, *that* Redcoat. The one written by comic book deity Geoff Johns (Aquaman… really?), illustrated by Bryan Hitch (of Ultimates fame, apparently), colored by someone, and lettered by another poor soul. Get ready for cinematic gold 🪙… or maybe just another comic book adaptation to clog up the streaming services.

Geoff Johns, bless his heart, will be penning this masterpiece based on his and Hitch’s “story.” Charles Roven and Alex Gartner from Atlas Entertainment are producing, probably because they ran out of other comic books to adapt. 🤷‍♂️

So, the story is about a British deserter who becomes immortal during the American Revolution (because, why not?) and has to confront his cowardly past while stopping a sinister plot to destroy America. They’re calling it reminiscent of *Pirates of the Caribbean* and *Indiana Jones*. I’m sure it will be JUST as good! 😂 It’s basically history, but with extra cheese and a complete disregard for historical accuracy. Get ready to learn some… “facts.”

*Redcoat* apparently sold out instantly in April 2024. Instant sellout? 🤔 Did they only print like, five copies? Anyway, it’s supposedly a “mainstay” on the top seller charts for Image Comics/Ghost Machine. I’m sure they’re THRILLED.

Gartner gushes, *”All great franchises are built on great characters and Redcoat’s Simon Pure is one of them. Funny, charismatic, and lovably roguish, he anchors the IP fantastically.”* Translation: “We needed a hero, and this is the best we could come up with.” 🙄

Roven chimes in, *”I have known Geoff Johns for many years and in some cases had a front row seat to his excellent work in the DC world. Johns and Hitch have formed a brilliant collaboration as writer and illustrator of the Redcoat comics, which have become a top selling fan favorite. Redcoat is innovative comic material and ripe to become a tentpole.”* Ah yes, the “innovative” tale of a British deserter. Groundbreaking. Tentpole? More like a toothpick holding up a mountain of expectations. 🏔️

Johns and Hitch, in a “joint statement” (because they’re too important to speak separately), said, *”We’re thrilled to collaborate with one of the most accomplished producers working today. From Oppenheimer to Wonder Woman, Chuck Roven helped bring some of the most iconic and inspirational films of our time to the screen.”* Translation: “Please don’t screw this up, Chuck.” 🙏

Who would I like to see playing Simon Pure? Nicolas Cage. Obviously. 👑 Make it happen, Hollywood!

Ghost Machine, founded in October 2023, is a “creator-owned-and-operated media company.” Sounds fancy. They generate, adapt, and control their “fully owned universes of original characters and stories.” Translation: They own the rights to this stuff and are going to milk it for all it’s worth. 🐄🐮 Among their titles are *Redcoat*, *Geiger* (post-apocalyptic western!), *Rook: Exodus* (sci-fi epic!), and *Hyde Street* (horror series!). Because one genre isn’t enough, apparently. Since its launch, Ghost Machine has sold “millions” of comic books. Millions! (If you count each individual issue sold at conventions for 5 bucks). They’ve also secured multiple licensing partners, including McFarlane Toys and MEZCO. Get ready for the Redcoat action figures! 🤖

*Redcoat* is available at local comic book shops, independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones. In other words, everywhere they sell books. 📚

Here’s a handy list of Redcoat reading material:

*Redcoat, Vol. 1 trade paperback* – Because who reads single issues anymore?
*Redcoat, Vol. 2 trade paperback* – Because the story was SO good, they had to split it into two volumes!
*Redcoat Vol. 1 Deluxe hardcover* – For the true fans who want to spend extra money.
*Redcoat is also available across many digital platforms* – For those who want to read it on their phones while pretending to work. 📱
