Get ready to freak out with Soft Cell’s latest release, because Soft Cell is back with a bang, or should I say, a disco ball 🎉💃! The legendary duo, consisting of singer Marc Almond and the late multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Ball, is releasing their final album Danceteria, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it 🤩! The first single, Out Come The Freaks, is a cover of Was (Not Was)’s classic and features special guest vocals from the iconic Nona Hendryx 🙌. This song is the perfect blend of disco and nostalgia, taking us back to the hedonist spirit of early 80s Manhattan and the legendary nightclub Danceteria, where Marc and Dave used to party the night away 💃🏻🕺.
The final album, Danceteria, is a homage to the legendary nightclub where young Marc and Dave would party until the small hours after recording sessions for their seminal 1981 debut Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. And, let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to party with Soft Cell 🎉? The album features the iconic singer Nona Hendryx, who is one third of Labelle of Lady Marmalade fame, and producer of Lisa Lisa and Bush Tetras. We’re talking about a music legend here, folks 🙌!
Listen to Out Come The Freaks below and get ready to dance the night away 💃🏻🕺:
This is the very first material to be released from Soft Cell’s forthcoming sixth and final album, and we’re honored to have new music from the duo after the sad passing of Dave Ball in October 2025 🙏. Almond led the tributes, describing Ball as a “brilliant musical genius” and the world’s media hailing Ball as an electronic music pioneer 🙌. Dave finished Danceteria very close to his passing, and it’s a full tribute to him that the album release goes ahead as planned 🙏. More details are to follow very soon about the release date, so stay tuned 📆!
In the meantime, Soft Cell will also be taking part in Record Store Day, with an exclusive release of Danceteria (Remixes) on the 18 April 2026 📆. The Danceteria (Remixes) will be a limited white 12″ vinyl featuring three mixes of Danceteria (Mark Moore Mix, Extended Mix, and Dub), the title track from the forthcoming album 🎶. Marc Almond said: “It is always exciting being part of Record Store Day. Perhaps it is because I am of that certain age where vinyl holds such special memories. And because it is the title track of our new album Danceteria which Dave Ball worked so extensively on and completed just prior to his passing. The Mark Moore mix is really special to me, and I wanted to thank him personally for doing it – he really understands the references and brings them out brilliantly” 🙏.
