Oh boy, are you ready for some drama? 🤣 Because we’ve got a whole lot of it brewing in the metal world, and it’s about to get real juicy 🍹! It seems that VENOM, those lovely lads from the UK, have found themselves in a bit of a pickle with their latest album, “Into Oblivion”, which just so happens to have the same title as LAMB OF GOD’s latest effort 🤦♂️. Whoops! 🙈
In a recent interview with Overdrive.ie, VENOM’s guitarist Rage (a.k.a. Stuart Dixon) and drummer Danté (a.k.a. Danny Needham) were asked about their initial reaction to the whole title debacle 🤔. And let me tell you, their responses were pure gold 💃! Rage said, “I think there was a bit, like, we were messaging, and then, I’ll not say who it was, one of us went, ‘So fucking what?’ [Laughs]” 🤣. Danté chimed in, “The record label weren’t too concerned. So it wasn’t, like, ‘Shit, we need a quick change of plan.’ It was, like, ‘Nah, nah.'” 🙅♂️. And then Rage added, “We wrote the song [the ‘Into Oblivion’ title track] five years ago. Fuck that. We were there first.” 🎸. Talk about throwing shade 🌴!
But wait, there’s more! 🤯 Because it turns out that there are now three different bands using variations of the VENOM name for their live shows 🤯. Yes, you read that right, folks! 🤯. There’s the Cronos-fronted version of VENOM, which features the sole remaining member from the band’s classic era, and then there’s VENOM INC., which is led by Tony “Demolition Man” Dolan, who was a member of VENOM between 1989 and 1992 🤝. And let’s not forget about the new collaboration between Jeff “Mantas” Dunn and Anthony “Abaddon” Bray, VENOM’s iconic co-founders 🤝. It’s like a big ol’ VENOM family reunion 🎉, but with more drama and less group hugs 🤗.
And if all that wasn’t enough, Cronos recently filed a lawsuit against Abaddon and Plastic Head Music Distribution Ltd, accusing them of selling merchandise with his copyrighted VENOM designs 🛍️. Oh, and did I mention that Abaddon filed a counterclaim for infringement against Cronos and his distributor, Razmataz.com Ltd? 🤯. It’s like a big ol’ game of metal musical chairs, but with more lawyers and less music 🎶.
But hey, at the end of the day, who cares about all the drama? 🤷♂️ Because VENOM’s new album, “Into Oblivion”, is actually pretty damn good 🤘! It’s got all the makings of a classic VENOM album: heavy riffs, catchy hooks, and enough evil vibes to make your grandma blush 😳. So, go ahead and give it a listen 🎧, but don’t forget to grab some popcorn 🍿, because the drama surrounding this band is about to get a whole lot more interesting 🍿! 🎥
