I just spilled my beer all over my desk because I’m so shocked by the latest news from the GODSMACK camp. It appears that the band has recruited former DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Mangini to sit behind the kit for the remainder of their “The Rise Of Rock” tour. I mean, who needs a stable drummer when you can just hire a new one every few weeks, right? 🤣
As previously reported, GODSMACK’s previous drummer, Wade Murff, left the band abruptly, and we’re still trying to figure out what happened. Did he get tired of Sully Erna’s vocals? Did he realize that playing the same songs for 20 years can be boring? We may never know. But what we do know is that Mike Mangini is now the new drummer, and he made his live debut with the band on June 12 at the Morton Amphitheater in Riverside, Missouri.
The Mike Mangini Era Begins
Mangini seems pretty stoked about his new gig, and who can blame him? I mean, playing with GODSMACK is a dream come true for any drummer. In an Instagram post, he wrote: “Taking this all in today with show 1 done. And just like that, I finally get to play these dream venues in the USA with my Boston brothers in GODSMACK.” Aww, isn’t that sweet? He’s like a kid on Christmas morning, except instead of presents, he got a drum kit and a bunch of angry fans who are still salty about the last drummer leaving.
But seriously, Mike Mangini is an incredibly talented drummer, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the table. Or should I say, what he brings to the drum kit? 🥁 I’m sure he’ll do just fine, considering he’s played with DREAM THEATER and EXTREME in the past. I mean, it’s not like he’s going to mess up or anything… 😂
Sully Erna, the lead vocalist of GODSMACK, seems pretty confident about the new lineup, too. In an interview with SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk,” he said: “I have complete confidence in this, although we start rehearsals next week. I’m just really confident that this is gonna be just as good, if not better than ever, because these guys came in with the right attitude.” Yeah, because nothing says “right attitude” like hiring a new drummer every few weeks. 🙄
The Rise Of Rock Tour Continues
Despite all the drama, the “Rise Of Rock” tour is still going strong, with Mike Mangini on drums. The band has been playing to packed crowds, and the fans seem to be enjoying the new lineup. I mean, who needs a consistent drummer when you can have a new one every few weeks, right? 🤷♂️ It’s like a game of musical chairs, except instead of chairs, it’s drum kits.
In all seriousness, though, we’re excited to see what the future holds for GODSMACK, and we’re glad that Mike Mangini is on board. He’s an incredibly talented drummer, and we’re sure he’ll do great things with the band. And who knows, maybe he’ll even stick around for more than a few weeks. 🤞
So, if you’re a fan of GODSMACK, be sure to check out their upcoming tour dates and see Mike Mangini in action. And if you’re not a fan of GODSMACK, well, what’s wrong with you? 🤣 Just kidding, sort of. 🙃 Anyway, we’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and bringing you all the latest updates. Stay tuned, folks! 🎸👊
