Breaking News: Amy Lee Reveals the Dark Secret Behind “Bring Me To Life” and We’re Shocked, SHOCKED! 🤯

In a stunning interview with Tom Power on Canada’s CBC Radio One, EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee dropped a bombshell about the band’s debut album “Fallen” and the iconic single “Bring Me To Life”. Apparently, the band’s original record label Wind Up threatened to shelve the album if they didn’t add a male voice to the lead single. Because, you know, a female-led band just wasn’t going to cut it back in the day 🙄. Lee recalled the drama, saying it was a “label thing” and that they were trying to fit into the nu metal scene, which was dominated by dudes. But Amy was all, “Uh, no thanks, we’re good” and fought against the idea of adding a male vocalist.

The Birth of a Hit Single

The album version of “Bring Me To Life” featuring Paul McCoy of 12 STONES went on to reach No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and became EVANESCENCE’s first U.K. No. 1 single. It was also included on the soundtrack of the superhero film “Daredevil”, because who doesn’t love a good superhero movie? 🦸‍♀️. Lee remembered the experience, saying it was a “hard thing for everybody” and that even famous artists were advised not to collaborate with a “chick-rock-band” because it wasn’t going to work. But hey, look who’s laughing now? 🤑.

Fast forward to 2022, and the music video for “Bring Me To Life” surpassed one billion views on YouTube. The Philipp Stölzl-directed clip was uploaded in 2009 and features Amy in a night gown and barefoot, because who needs shoes when you’re rocking out? 🤘. The rest of the band is playing on a higher floor of the building, because why not? It’s not like they’re trying to make a music video or anything 📹.

Amy Lee: The Visionary

In a 2021 interview with Germany’s Sonic Seducer, Amy spoke about the lyrical inspiration for “Bring Me To Life”. She wrote the song about her current husband Josh, before they were married, because who doesn’t love a good love story? 💕. The song reached No. 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and was EVANESCENCE’s first U.K. No. 1 single, because the people have spoken and they love Amy Lee’s vocals 🗣️.

Last month, “Bring Me To Life” was certified eleven times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), surpassing the diamond threshold. Because who needs a diamond when you can have eleven platinum certifications? 💎. In the U.S., diamond certification is awarded to songs or albums that reach 10 million certified units, because that’s just a fancy way of saying “a lot of people bought this song” 🤑.

EVANESCENCE is currently touring North America in support of their new album “Sanctuary”, which was released in June. Because who doesn’t love a good tour? 🎸. The band is surely going to play all their hits, including “Bring Me To Life”, because the people demand it 🗣️. So, go ahead and grab your tickets, and let’s rock out to some EVANESCENCE 🤘!
