I just spilled my beer all over my shirt because I’m so shocked… not. Former Megadeth guitarist Jeff Young was asked if he thinks all former members of the band should be invited to play with Megadeth again during their “farewell” tour, and his response was a resounding “meh.” I mean, who wouldn’t want to reunite with their old buddies and relive the good old days of thrash metal? 🙄
In a recent interview with Chris Akin of The Classic Metal Show, Young stated, “I’m totally neutral about it. I have no opinion about it. I don’t even know if I’d wanna do it if it was offered to me.” Wow, what a passionate response. I bet Dave Mustaine is just devastated that Young isn’t chomping at the bit to reunite.
The Reason Behind Young’s Apathy
According to Young, the reason he’s not interested in rejoining Megadeth is that “we’re already doing it with KINGS OF THRASH [which performs Megadeth’s classic songs], and to my mind better, so I don’t know why I need to go do that.” Ah, I see. So, it’s not that he doesn’t care about Megadeth, it’s just that he’s too busy being better than them with his new project. Got it.
Young also mentioned that playing with Megadeth again would only be worth it for the fans, but since he’s already playing those songs with KINGS OF THRASH, what’s the point? “We’re not all necessarily friends to begin with. And I’m not down for the drama, to be honest.” Yeah, because nothing says “no drama” like a bunch of middle-aged men playing thrash metal.
KINGS OF THRASH: The Better Megadeth?
KINGS OF THRASH was formed in April 2022, featuring Young and former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, along with vocalist Chaz Leon. Their mission is to celebrate early Megadeth albums and rarely performed deep cuts from Ellefson’s tenure with the band. Because what the world really needed was another Megadeth cover band.
Their latest single, “Bullets Ready,” was released in May via Cleopatra Records and features a vocal duet between Leon and Gabriel Connor of RED DEVIL VORTEX. Because who doesn’t love a good vocal duet? The track also includes a special guest appearance by former Exodus singer Steve “Zetro” Souza, because why not?
In conclusion, Jeff Young doesn’t care about a Megadeth reunion, and honestly, who can blame him? The drama, the politics, the thrash metal… it’s all just too much. Let’s just stick to KINGS OF THRASH and their “better” version of Megadeth’s classic songs. 🤷♂️
So, to all the Megadeth fans out there, don’t hold your breath for a reunion. But hey, if you’re lucky, you might just get to see KINGS OF THRASH live, playing all the Megadeth songs you love, but with more… um, let’s say, “character.” 😜
