Pritzker Drops 80 Pounds Because Politics Wasn’t Stressful Enough Already

Pritzker Drops 80 Pounds Because Politics Wasn't Stressful Enough Already

Folks, I almost spilled my coffee reading about Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s weight loss journey. Apparently, he’s lost a whopping 80 pounds using a “life-changing” GLP-1 medication since being diagnosed with diabetes two years ago. I mean, that’s quite a transformation. He discussed his weight loss and use of the medication in an interview with CBS News that aired on Monday, and I have to say, it’s quite impressive.

Pritzker’s story is pretty interesting, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a sucker for a good weight loss tale. He’s been open about his struggles with obesity, saying he’s been overweight since he was 7 or 8 years old, and had gained even more weight during his time as Illinois governor. He’s also been mocked for his weight, with President Donald Trump saying he “wants to eat all the time” during the 2024 presidential campaign. Ouch, that’s gotta sting.

Anyway, Pritzker started the GLP-1 medication after being advised by a doctor to do so two years ago, and he’s also been walking four miles along Lake Michigan almost every morning. He said he lost two pounds in the first week on the medication, and described the experience as “the strangest feeling” with food cravings just ending. I can imagine, it’s like a whole new world opens up when you’re not constantly thinking about food.

Pritzker’s also been talking about how the Illinois state employee insurance plan is covering GLP-1 medications, which he says will save money in the long run because “fewer people will have diabetes. People will be less overweight, which causes so many other diseases.” Makes sense, right? It’s always better to address the root cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms.

Now, I know what you’re thinking – is Pritzker’s weight loss journey just a clever ploy to boost his image ahead of a potential 2028 presidential campaign? Well, he didn’t directly answer that question, but he did say he’s focused on his reelection bid this fall and hasn’t made any decisions about what he might do in the future. Sure, sure, we’ve all heard that before.

In conclusion, Pritzker’s weight loss story is definitely an inspiring one, and I’m glad he’s been open about his journey. Who knows, maybe his story will inspire others to take control of their health and make positive changes in their lives. And hey, if it helps him become a more viable presidential candidate, well, that’s just the cherry on top. As I always say, you can’t make this stuff up – and I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that a politician is actually talking about their weight loss journey in a realistic and relatable way. What a refreshing change!
