Folks, I’m sipping my coffee and reading about the latest drama in the White House, and I have to say, it’s been a wild ride. The major networks in the White House TV pool have resumed coverage of presidential events after a brief pause, all because President Donald Trump banned CNN. I mean, who doesn’t love a good controversy to start the day? The pool footage on Friday morning showed Trump greeting Chinese leader Xi Jinping outside the White House South Portico, and I’m sure it was a totally normal and not-at-all-awkward encounter.
The TV pool, made up of NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox News, and CNN, is basically the primary way people around the world watch Trump’s speeches and appearances. And let’s be real, it’s not like they have a choice, since the wider press corps can’t always be present. So, when the networks decided to abstain from pool coverage due to the ban controversy, it was a big deal. But now that federal judge Timothy Kelly has ordered the White House to restore access, the networks are back to their usual antics.
I have to chuckle at the fact that the pool rotation is alphabetical, and Thursday would have been ABC’s turn, but they decided to sit it out due to the drama. I mean, who needs a good story when you can have a principled stand, right? Anyway, now that the situation has been resolved, the networks are moving forward with pooled coverage, and we can all go back to watching Trump’s speeches and appearances in peace.
The event at the National Archives, where Trump and Xi Jinping will view the Declaration of Independence, is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. Eastern. And I’m sure it will be a totally respectful and not-at-all-political event. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch two world leaders gaze at a historic document and pretend to care about its significance? CNN anchor Pamela Brown said on air that CNN’s access to the White House has been restored, and the TV pool appears to be functioning as normal. And Ted Boutrous, the lawyer for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, said that the plaintiffs in the ongoing lawsuit over White House access believe that pool access is covered by the temporary restraining order. Yeah, because that’s exactly what we need, more lawyers and lawsuits.
In conclusion, the White House TV pool is back in business, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. I mean, it’s not like we were missing out on any actual news or anything. The whole ordeal was just a big show, and now that it’s over, we can go back to our regularly scheduled programming. And who knows, maybe Trump and Xi Jinping will even manage to take a decent selfie with the Declaration of Independence. Wouldn’t that be something to tweet about? 😊
